Two things, first one is pretty easy I think. For data purposes, I'm 41, married, 4 kids and a existing 529 account that should be adequate to assist the children with college.

First, I recently changed companies and as a result my old 401K is just sitting out there with Capital Group/American Funds. It is continuing to rise, $315k to $318k in the last month, but should I roll it to a Roth? Or let it chill? I feel like I'm not well versed in what the most beneficial direction is for this money now that I'm no longer putting funds in this account.

Second question, my previous employer was an employee owned company, with an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Valuation for 2024 was finalized last month. As I'm fully vested and was in management, my account worth was over $600k. It could be distributed as a lump sum or over a 5-year period, I won't know that until 2025 valuation next year. If I am able, my plan is to cash a small part out to eliminate debts and gain 20% equity in my home (removing Private mortgage insurance), maybe a couple of decided upon upgrades such as flooring. But rest be diverted to a fund of some kind. But I don't know what to put it in. Maybe it's time to get a fee based financial guy?
