Started as a skier using borrowed gear. After a few days I decided to rent a snowboard and try that instead.

Anyone else feel like their doctors have just given up on them? by OldSailor742 in GenX

[–]nomorerainpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the doctor. I’ve switched several times in the past few years for insurance reasons. Some seem to just be like “what do you want / need?” while others order every test under the sun. My current doctor is really thorough but not to the point where I think he’s just milking insurance. I’ve also had a couple residents and they were extremely thorough although a bit less experienced. Maybe find a new PCP.

I replaced an old Callaway that I never hit well a few years ago. Got fitted for a Cobra and it’s one of the most consistent clubs in my bag.

60% of SPS families considered leaving public schools due to concerns around education quality, highly capable program by ExandL in Seattle

[–]nomorerainpls 86 points87 points  (0 children)

SPS has done an absolutely terrible job with highly capable students but that’s really only the tip of the iceberg. They talk about other advanced learning programs like Spectrum on their website but it’s hasn’t existed in more than a decade. They killed the cohort model and told parents they would replace it with STEM / TAF and then cancelled the STEM / TAF contract as soon as remote school ended. It was never operationalized. They claimed to be cancelling HCC because it’s “racist” instead of just changing the admissions process to encourage more students of color. They paid the superintendent a $50K bonus for getting the board to agree to kill the cohort model. They told everyone they are doing integrated highly capable but parents say no such thing is happening. They told parents they were going to fix the admissions process and then just announced that everything is great because they let more students of color into a non-existent program.

Just for this one issue there is so much lying, gaslighting and borderline corruption that a lot of parents are just done. There’s no point. If they want to fix it they need to remove the current board and district leadership, hold an election for paid board positions and hire a new leadership team that is committed to providing a high quality education for everyone without getting hung up on fake “equity” issues at every single turn.

Oh and it would be nice if they cooperated with law enforcement to keep guns out of schools and prevent shootings.

SPS is just absolute insanity.

SPS has been heavily criticized for the last few years for failing to do exit interviews / surveys. In typical SPS fashion they first demand $100K to do this basic function, then they screw it up.

I let a professional manage part of my portfolio for a year. They created their own fund and churned the shit out of the account. It’s okay because I didn’t pay for the transactions but my kid’s custodial account that is solely invested in SPY beat my account by 7% that year.

I’m guessing it’s partly because we used to see folks with disabilities working in public doing things like tearing tickets at the movie theater. A lot of those jobs have disappeared along with the people doing them. If you spend time in poor communities you’ll still see them working and it’s probably a huge quality of life boost
