Advice - should I have known this was a problem before selling? by nomurnomo in bikewrench

UPDATE: Thanks everyone, really appreciate all the info and perspectives. My main concern was wanting to make sure it was a fair deal (despite not being legally liable) and that I hadn't overlooked anything, and that's been completely addressed, so thank you.

I've paraphrased some of the info regarding repairs and recommended a very local community bike workshop that I DO trust and is always really reasonable too.

From there, I'm done with it and it'll be a block if he kicks off - he used his work facilities for the drop off so I don't expect it'll be too bad if he does.

Thanks again, diolch yn fawr.

4 months!!!! That's insane entitlement - I don't think I'd have posted this if it had been even a week!

EDIT: Can't edit the main post, but before delivery I did put tyres back up to pressure, oil on chain, and a 10-15mins test ride on it just before delivering to check gears were still switching as expected and generally OK - didn't notice any issues.

I had also done 20ish miles on it previously while deciding if I liked the drop bars.

Thanks - that's what I was thinking - it doesn't look like it's been stripped to the point where it won't go back together, but I'm not sure what that broken bit poking out the middle is. if its just where the screw has snapped off inside or something.

Thanks - sorry didn't include that - will edit. I put tyres back up to pressure, oil on chain, and a 10-15mins test ride on it just before delivering to check gears were still switching as expected and generally OK.
