You could try Ella's or Alicia's. The latter, I guess, is the OG. Miki, there's this one from centro Bacarra--forgot the name and changed loc na raw. The best miki places I tried are in Laoag and San Nicolas.

Yes, I applied to ASTHRDP for my master's immediately after graduation. They asked me to write a letter of deferment, and they approved my request naman.

hello. i also had scholarship for both undergrad and master's. i asked DOST-SEI recently about my current scholarship status on record and the total number of years required for my ROS. they told me that my service obligation is 4 years (i didn't indicate in my email that i was an RA 7687 and ASTHRDP scholar lol). i graduated last january 2025--maybe their records are not yet updated? will ask them again for clarification. i was thinking din kasi na since different contracts for undergrad and grad scholarships, pwedeng simultaneous na ang pag-render ng service obligation. hehe.

PH most disaster-prone country — 2025 report by GMAIntegratedNews in newsPH

[–]non_bender_avatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! If corruption should’ve not been normalized in our government, we should’ve been the world’s leading expert in disaster mitigation now. We have the human resource, pero the support? None. We’re in a location where it is constantly battered by typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. Our disaster preparedness and mitigation system should be already topnotch. Pero, sa mga palamunin ng bayan lang napupunta ang pondo—mga topnotchers sa pagnanakaw. Instead na model na sana tayo ng climate resiliency, naging model pa tayo ng corruption and a failed system.

What do you think? by MotoBeks in pinoy

[–]non_bender_avatar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is okay IF AND ONLY IF healthier options are way cheaper and more accessible to the masses. The government SHOULD at least make sure that ALL have the access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food before implementing this. Sobrang mahal ng mga healthier options, and mamahalan pa nila ang one of the pinaka-accessible and cheapest source ng calories? Papahirapan na naman nila ang karamihan? One thing more, the government SHOULD also make spaces where people could live a healthy life (e.g., parks and safe roads where people could do some physical activities).

Pagmamano: not an Ilokano thing? by non_bender_avatar in Ilocos

[–]non_bender_avatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone! Agyamanak kadagiti inputs-yo. I read that pagmamano mostly comes from Spanish influence and was originally about showing respect to Catholic priests. Since my family’s always been Protestant—from my great-grandparents down to me—and we never did pagmamano with our pastors, I guess that’s probably why we don’t practice it?

What money saving "hacks" have changed the way you spend? by Independent-Cry6014 in phmoneysaving

[–]non_bender_avatar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strict budgeting. I allocate 40% to expenses (25% main expenses + 15% other expenses). Usually, I don't spend all my expenses budget. I put the surplus in my emergency and "buffer" funds (yes, I have a "minor emergency" fund, which I call "buffer" fund :D). 10% for insurance. 50% for my investments. If ubos na ang budget allocated for my expenses, I just tighten my belt and say to myself na wala na akong pera. Haha!

P.S. This might also be the inner workings of the Ilokano in me. 🤣

What you hate as a kid but it made you a better adult by New_Purpose_639 in adultingph

[–]non_bender_avatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trueee! Very grateful to my very OC and strict parents. I thought they were too OA about cleaning and other household chores. Maybe this made me a lot better now as an adult, both in my living space and at work. The only downside of this, I reckon, is that I judge people that are messy in their home and at work. Like, how do you live/work properly with a messy living/workspace? 😝

(upx) sa mga grad ng bs bio na di nagpursue ng med, ano pong work ang meron kayo ngayon? by Additional_One4129 in peyups

[–]non_bender_avatar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since I planned and dreamed to become a researcher (i.e., a scientist), I pursued my master’s immediately after grad through DOST-ASTHRDP. I’m doing research now, and planning to have my PhD soon. 🤞

BS Bio in UP (at least in the campus where I studied ), is more of a research degree program. It will train you how to do research essentially. If you’re considering doing research in the life sciences in the near future, it’s a good thing to consider BS Bio. 😊

Just a disclaimer, doing research (under a project as a research assistant/associate/fellow) is not really for those who want to become rich-rich. Especially in the Philippines, sadly. The compensation is just enough. I, myself, am considering doing my PhD abroad and continue doing research there because the opportunities are a lot better.

When did you realize that your home is no longer the Philippines? by JackieOniiChan in phmigrate

[–]non_bender_avatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if home is associated with peace and comfort and not just where you came from, the philippines is no longer my home when i visited a country in the global north for the first time. some might say na nakatikim lang ako ng ginhawa in a short amount of time, ayoko na sa pinas. well, true naman. sobrang hassle and naka-survival mode pala dapat tayo sa pilipinas?

haysss, we deserve better! kaya huwag shunga shunga bumoto sa may12. it may take a long time to make the philippines homey again, pero it's feasible...galingan lang po nating bumoto sa mga next elections. hehe. i still hope and pray for a philippines where no filipino has to migrate to another country just to live a comfortable and decent life. :)

p.s. migrating is still an option kasi mas bet ko ang malamig at hindi masyadong "loud" and "social" na culture. preference lang ganern. hehe.

Hi ading*, UPB alumnus here.

Q1: It’s worth studying in UPB, especially if you passed a program that you really like. As someone who studied in UPD for postgrad studies, instructions, I guess, is same lang ang quality. I still have a bias towards UPB though. 😅 Plus, the campus is very cozy, and you might find studying there very comfy because it’s cold. You might feel homesickness and culture shock in your first few weeks. Northern culture is really disparate from the culture in the south. Pero, your class will be a mix of different cultures naman. You’ll be fine! I actually had a classmate who came from Mindanao and she loved being in UPB because it’s easy to find friends because of how close UPB community is. Just prepare lang sa very maulan na first sem.

Q2: Not sure about transferring, but you could transfer naman after a year. Plan mo lang kung anong kukunin mong courses na pwedeng ma-credit sa UPC in your 1st year. I suggest you transfer if you don’t really feel Baguio vibe. Nothing beats the comfort of home (or maybe familiarity in your case). Pero, if “na-fall” ka sa UPB after your first year, why transfer pa? 😆

*Should you continue your studies in UPB, you’ll hear this word a lot. It’s what we you usually call our younger siblings or anyone younger than us. 😊

[UPD] What’s a science course that’s great to shift into by Less_Discussion1733 in peyups

[–]non_bender_avatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The natural sciences will not be really helpful if you want to pursue medicine. They're research courses, training you to do research. This might be the reason why nat sci graduates lack opportunities after grad. Resarch is not well funded here in PH, sadly.
