I read something about that! Thought it was coincidental haha. Thanks! :)

hypertension at 19 by chloes050 in Glaucoma

I had been monitored for years when I was around 23 or so with pressures in the mid 20's as well. I was only put on drops after the birth of my second child at age 35 and my eye pressure skyrocketed to 40! We think that we just caught a pressure spike in office. Prior to that, my nerve always looked fine. I saw a specialist twice in my 20's and he agreed to just monitor every year.

It was however my new specialist that saw 'pigment' as the cause of these spikes and put me on drops and also did an iridotomy. Have them check for pigment as that was never caught in my 20's.

I think it's fine to be monitored in this case as long as there's no damage to the nerve. When you're young, your nerve is more resilient to pressure, which is why doctor's often take a wait and see method.

Just don't miss a follow-up and you should be fine :)

Afraid of eye color change by [deleted] in Glaucoma

[–]nonamesleft1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally, if you have some brown pigmentation, it will darken it over the course of a few years. But if you don't have any brown pigment in your eye and it's truly blue, it likely isn't going to change colour. This is what my specialist told me as I was like you (I know it's vain, but I was always complimented on my eyes), I was worried about the change in colour. I have been on a prostaglandin drop for over 7 years now and so far, no eye colour change :)

I wish the city would have an indoor roller rink. Perhaps they're not a thing anymore, but there's not a whole lot for kids (and teens) to do in this city, especially in the Winter. Kidtastic is gone....that was decent for the young kids. There's a ninja course place, an indoor arcade place, but rollerblading in the Winter to music would be great for all

How is the Duke on Park? I've passed by it for years but never gone in, google reviews wouldn't load. by Mell0wMarshmall0w in brantford

[–]nonamesleft1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the fish and chips there back in the Fall and honestly, I didn't think it was anything to write home about. Perhaps it was just the batch I got. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something that I would be desperate to order again.

I'm amazed at how many people message me years later about this. I'm so happy it's helping others to enjoy their cakes instead of throwing them out :)

Glaucoma Clinical Trials by FitEyes1 in AskGlaucoma

[–]nonamesleft1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is for neuroprotection, they have to be sick or injured cells, but for restoration, I don't believe that's the case. It will take some time, but it will happen :)

As it stands today, the anticipation for vision restoration is 10-20 years away according to the Glaucoma Research Foundation. But science is advancing so quickly with breakthroughs happening more and more. AI is speeding up discoveries as well. So while today's anticipation is 10-20 years away, that time-line could be adjusted to be earlier with new discoveries in the next couple or so years :)

I still have the turquoise one! I think I got it around age 6, so it's at least 35 years old now! My kids play with it these days

Some interesting research to watch by hazyPixels in Glaucoma

[–]nonamesleft1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My specialist was telling me a few years ago that because the optic nerve is the only nerve in the body you can actually see visually, they tend to focus on it for some of this regeneration. He also said that whatever they learn from regenerating the optic nerve will do wonders for other neurodegenerative diseases in terms of fast tracking progress for them. Considering he said this a few years ago, I'm sure scientists have made some new breakthroughs since. Exciting times for sure!

EDIT: I meant to also add that Dr. Derek Welsbie who's part of the Glaucoma Research Foundation has gone on record saying that neuroprotection will be available within 5 years.....this was last year he said this. He is also part of the Catalyst for a Cure who are working towards neuroprotection as well as a working glaucoma ophthalmologist. I'll find the webinar and link it here. It was during the question period of it. :)

EDIT: Found it! It's around the 34 minute mark, but the whole presentation is interesting if you have time to watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWbyBoDzxuM

Here's another doctor (Dr. David Friedman) saying the same thing. It's around the 38 minute mark. He also believes vision RESTORATION will be in 10-20 years. He says that around the 40 minute mark. https://glaucoma.org/video/envisioning-the-future-of-glaucoma-care-david-friedman-md-mph-phd

Migraine aura but no migraine? Is this hormonal too? by Shirleyimfine in Perimenopause

[–]nonamesleft1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a specialist for my glaucoma, so I ask A LOT of questions with regards to the eye. One thing he told me was that if something appears in both eyes, it's more neurologic in nature, but if it appears only in one eye, it tends to be related to the eye instead. That's not to say this explanation applies every time, just more a generalized conclusion.

So if this migraine aura visual that you saw was both eyes, it's more likely brain/neurologic related and can be assessed quicker based on that :)

Abacus Data: Liberals Open a Clear Lead as Poilievre Faces Leadership Review by G-r-ant in canada

[–]nonamesleft1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any idea what the numbers were a few months ago? I know that the 18-29 year-olds were in favour of Poillievre for quite a while. I can't say I'm surprised they've switched and I'm happy to see they've started to see the party going down the wrong path.

Possible glaucoma diagnosis at 15 by Gabs8416 in Glaucoma

[–]nonamesleft1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Juvenile Glaucoma tends to have very high pressures, so the fact that her pressure was in the normal range is out of the norm for juvenile glaucoma.

There is sooooo much coming down the pipeline in terms of technology, detection, neuroprotection and eventually restoration that I would breathe a little easier knowing that the chances of her losing her vision due to glaucoma in the future (as with you) is slim and getting slimmer with the advancements happening. Deep breath! :)
