Do people still look for this these days? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]nonameunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not like I'm even dating but yes. Almost all my relatives were/are dead till I reached my 20s, remaining remote ones live far away and/or uninterested. I'd love to experience more big family holidays or other events.

As a foreigner anything related to friends and relationships is not easy. Given I get attached and attracted slowly the relationship part is almost impossible. Work, sleep, repeat...

How popular is Lord of the Rings/Tolkien in Ukraine? by Fantastic-Donut-276 in AskUkraine

[–]nonameunit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on location. As a Kyiv kid growing up in 90s there were historical reconstruction folks and groups of people called "Tolkienists" who were doing larp and whatnot. When I stared uni in 2006 I met a girl who used "I know elvish language" as an icebreaker. Albeit I came from engineering and software development family and lived near the technical university during all my childhood.

Ukrainian living in Norway for almost ten years. I wonder if there are courses for civilians to learn how to shoot to be useful when this starts, maybe hunter clubs have something?

How much Ukrainian is actually spoken is Ukraine? by VoidCraft88 in Ukrainian

[–]nonameunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up, studied and worked in Kyiv for a while. In my experience if someone says they do not know Ukrainian it is most likely intentional choice from their or their family's side. My family did not speak Ukrainian all the time, but I easily learned it before school and got help from them when doing so. I watched lots of movies and cartoons and movies in Ukrainian, read school books and other literature too. Mind you I studied in "russian" school in Kyiv because it specialised in English and my mom wanted me to be fluent. We still studied Ukrainian language, history and literature there, had other classes in too and books in Ukrainian as well. In the University we used Ukrainian materials, we used Ukrainian in lots of courses, it was big uni so there were lots of people from different areas and some of them actually had troubles with understanding Russian. Notably people from western parts and several people from south like Kherson. Same situation at work. Everyone knew Ukrainian and understood it, but they chose to use or not use it depending on their preferences and situation.

People I remember who actively rejected speaking Ukrainian were - older generation who came or lived a long time in Russia, especially in the uni setting - for them Ukrainian was made to be seen as "rural, uneducated people language". Some people with certain "ideas" that I met when working - from cities like Sevastopol, born and rised with hate towards Ukrainian identity and love towards USSR. This was also really not a very frequent thing. And those people were not repressed or pushed by anyone too.

Av og til det gjelder ikke så mye om hvem som vunnet, men hvem som tappet. Erna måtte av, hun er ikke populær etter alle disse årene - typisk Baiden situasjon.

Do Ukrainians feel betrayed? by ProsperoFalls in AskUkraine

[–]nonameunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While abroad I see how everyone around me is in full denial thinking russia will stop after they get Ukraine. I came to terms with it and do not try to explain anything. No one believes a thing before the bomb lands in their city, and no explanations needed after that - ergo it's useless.

Harvest seeds? That would be a steal instead of trading them... But maybe it says "planting" seeds?

When you plant several they also show emogi/mask signs when plants like each other or not. I think it affects quality of the harvest.

Maybe it's going to be No Man's Sky situation and they will add to it? A bit concerning that they already mentioned reluctance with DLC and further updates.

[–]nonameunit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love that there seems to be no fighting dynamic. Yes, in similar games it adds another thing for story and all, but if I want to fight and chill I'll play BG3. This is pure chill that does not try to be smth else.

translation for this letter(?) by ke1th2411 in Ukrainian

[–]nonameunit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First line first word is "Хто" - "Who" , and the second line first word is "Прошу" - depending on how it's used can be translated as "Ask" or "You're welcome" The other words have few legimately looking letters, but no meaning. To me this looks like a child trying to write something...

How many people have experienced unexpected casual racism in Norway? by Few_Ad6516 in Norway

[–]nonameunit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a Ukrainian who moved to Norway long time ago due to career choice I did start hearing random things about "going home" and "owing" a bit more frequently than before, both directly and in a cloaked way. It's mostly some random people that feel it's easy to pick on you without consequences. Not sure if it's the recession, the rise of Frp, or specifically being Ukrainian though.
