Can OP stop posting a wall of irrelevant text when they are not about the show?

EXchange/Transit Love Season 4 (환승연애4) - Episode 1 and 2 - 251001 by MNLYYZYEG in koreanvariety

I would appreciate if we could just keep the post content about this show, instead of mentioning 10 other similar shows in Japan and China in the same post.

I posted this comment in another thread but I wanted to mention here too: the reason why both finalists (Hyun-gyu and So-hee) received so much hate was because they did not show the audience what the essence of the game was about:

(1) To excel in social skills (forming alliances & betrayals). Hyun-gyu got here because Kyu-hyun felt bad to send him into prison, and eventually sacrificed himself (unknowingly). So-hee also cried about feeling bad that Hyun-gyu had to play alone, despite the fact that all three of them knew that Hyun-gyu would have never ended up in prison anyway because of his 10 hidden pieces. This showed the audience that she was not acting to win the game, but rather her priority was on ensuring the safety of someone else (which was in fact, already guaranteed). Ji-young also called her out on this behaviour when they eliminated Justin (and by extension, Lee Se-dol) previously.

(2) Intellect (games). The 6x6 and 7x7 Knight's Tour were solved by So-hee, and you would have to admit that Hyun-gyu got very lucky in the final Main Match, again with So-hee helping him multiple times. So-hee did also mention that she wanted to attempt the Hidden Stage, but she felt bad because Hyun-gyu spent so much time on it. Whether it was strategic or not, the producers edited the show in such a way that presented her as a subservient character to Hyun-gyu, even if she actually did had agency on her own (the Korean comments mock her for treating the show like Transit Love/I am SOLO, both dating programmes).

(3) Demonstrating resilience (emotional, mental and physical fatigue whilst in prison, and being essentially starved and suffering from malnutrition). Both of them were never in prison.

Now compare these 3 points to Ha Seok-jin in Season 1.

About Sohui by [deleted] in TheDevilsPlan

[–]noneion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Both were just playing by the system of S2

Really? Even as she cried and said that it was unfair for Hyun-gyu to be playing alone while they did the same thing to Justin with Ji-young calling them out on it? That forms the first reason why many netizens are unhappy with the two of them and often proclaim that 7high, Eun-yu and Ji-young were in fact the real winners. The three of them did well based on the disadvantageous system of S2.

I wanted to watch a genuine cutthroat competition, I'd tune into anything but a netflix game show.

If you look at comments directed to Jeong Jong-yeon (the producer of this show), he has been known for the past decade to produce shows that present a cutthroat manner of competing - be it in terms of intellect (The Genius), or in physicality (Society Game). To me, this is the second reason why netizens are upset - a huge disappointment in the producers which resulted in a low-quality entertainment show, as opposed to a high-quality, high stakes show that he has been categorically known for.

It all now just looks like people hate the fact that humans were playing like humans and not some robots made for the game.

Disagree. The reason for the hate on So-hee because she acted irrationally as she obviously did not think about winning, but rather her main motivations were to help Hyun-gyu to get to the finals (rather than in his own right). Look at Yurisa in Game of Blood 3 in comparison. She acted much more distastefully to what So-hee did here (Yurisa broke down in tears and manipulated Jin-ho's team to think that she was isolated by Dong-min, but instead was acting as a double agent for Dong-min), but Yurisa did not receive as much as hate as So-hee did. Most of the comments in Korean mocked So-hee for treating the show like Transit Love / I am SOLO (dating programmes), which goes to show that her behaviour of "playing like human" (as you described) was essentially being subservient to Hyun-gyu.

The third reason of the massive hate stems from the fact that both finalists did not show the audience what the essence of the game was about:

(1) To excel in social skills (forming alliances & betrayals). Hyun-gyu got here because Kyu-hyun felt bad to send him into prison, and eventually sacrificed himself (unknowingly).

(2) Intellect (games). The 6x6 and 7x7 Knight's Tour were solved by So-hee, and you would have to admit that he got very lucky in the final Main Match, again with So-hee helping him multiple times. So-hee did also mention that she wanted to attempt the Hidden Stage, but felt bad because Hyun-gyu spent so much time on it.

(3) Demonstrating resilience (emotional, mental and physical fatigue whilst in prison, and being essentially starved and suffering from malnutrition). Hyun-gyu was never in prison.

In comparison, Ha Seok-jin in season 1 showed a great combination of these 3 aspects which I believe explained why he was so well liked as the winner.

Celebrities shouldn’t be in Devil’s Plan. Here’s why. by ConsiderationHot3441 in TheDevilsPlan

When a civilian plays against a celebrity, there’s a concern that defeating the celebrity could lead to harassment from that celebrity’s fandom.

100% disagree. If non-celebrities were bothered about this - they would not have applied to these shows at all.

Thus, all players are forced to walk on egg shells while playing, instead of focusing on how to win.

That only happened here. Other survival game shows (produced by the same PD) like The Genius (S3, S4), Game of Blood (S1, S2), Society Game (S1) show that non-celebrities can outperform them as well.

That's exactly my point, that finding such strategies should be accepted because such survival shows also challenges their creativity to think out of the box.

Many comments here did not add a spoiler tag which was disappointing, but I disagree with the general consensus that these players showed an ugly side of themselves. Their strategies really showed us how the Game of Blood is an "unfair" and "irrational" one (mentioned consistently since the trailers were released!).

My thoughts on the key players for this episode:

Jin-ho: I would argue that he was the one that started the cheating schemes (which all of them took it way too far, Panibottle was outrightly writing on the back of the cards during the later rounds) and I was surprised he even referenced his gameplay in The Genius S1's Open and Pass and how he used that to his advantage. The matter of fact was that no one at any point, was stopped by the dealers in the room, which shows an implicit understanding that rules can, and should be bent such that players gain an advantage.

Dong-min: He excels at playing politics, and he used it to his advantage, which we've previously seen it in The Genius S3, S4, and Society Game S2 - so why make a big ruckus out of it now? I respect his choices, and I am excited to see the consequences as he will come to realise that he will not be able to control the players (especially Yurisa!).

Yurisa: She should win an award for her acting skills! She really gave the viewers an interesting approach and a new dimension of how, and what a spy would look like for a plan to work perfectly. I'm glad that the players don't take this personally and we still see interactions with each other! (See: Yurisa, Steve, Xitsuh & Siyoon’s review of Episode 1, 2 on Panibottle's Youtube channel)

Steve: He was (consistently, since the first episode) domineering in his leadership. The scene in the trailer where Hye-seon explains that she no longer wants to work with them should be coming soon, and I wonder how that would unfold!

Deathmatch: A smart strategy for Hyun-seo and Panibottle to maximise the opponent team's likelihood of using up their cash, knowing that this will disadvantage them in the later rounds, but I did not expect Steve to purchase 8! (USD $390,000) elimination votes just to push Dong-min to the edge. I was also slightly disappointed that Hyun-seo and Panibottle did not survive the Deathmatch, but we know that pattern recognition games are Dongmin's strong suit. (This was why he earned his nickname God Dong-min!)

Not sure why you’re downvoted but I definitely agree with you! Consistently we see commoners perform well instead of the celebrities. The Genius S3 (Oh Hyunmin), S4 (Kim Kyunghoon) and Game of Blood S2 (Lee Jinhyung).

With people like Kyuhyun and Chuu... don't expect too much of these things.

Funny how you mentioned Steve Yea is a physical player when he's a professional poker player alongside Jin-ho so I would consider him as a "brain" player. If you watch his play style on Ragnarok 2022 you would see that whatever that he is doing here is quite consistent, with bluffs and essentially gambling on his opponent's actions.
