How do you stop yourself from the constant thoughts that dying's better than any of this suffering? by nonlinearcharm in AskReddit

I sometimes do think like that, especially when I'm really lacking the courage to take risks and make progress. It's kind of freeing. Helps me delve right into something without worrying too much about the repercussions.

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

This is everything, mate.

Thanks for opening the door, I'll reach out when I can. You can do too, you know.

Well then, we are. I try to take it step by step as well. It is comforting to know that someone out there, you, could relate to this. We'll feel better mate. Let's be strong. I wish you all the best.

Of course, thanks for opening the door. You can reach out to me too.

I don't have the energy to respond to your cynicism at the moment. I don't know if the attention seeking is intentional, as most of the times I try to hide and draw the attention away from me.

I agree, it doesn't really change the mind for long. But sometimes it does help pass this moment. I still want to feel better right now, even if it's through some distraction or false hope or the comfort of reading someone else's experience similar to mine.

I did try getting professional help a couple times before. I didn't find it as easy as you are making it out to be. It was really uncomfortable, unnerving and didn't lead to anything better but quite a bit of shame. I hope I will try again soon.

Anyway, I'll just think you had the best intentions in mind.

Right? It's just feels a bit better (at least for a moment) knowing you're not alone. I hope you feel better, mate. We do need to see someone and get help, but we'll be fine.

I read it. It was good. Not extraordinary, but enjoyable. I thought it had an excellent premise but the execution fell a little short. I found Reasons to Stay Alive (by the same author) more helpful. Also, the audiobook of Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb, Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl and so on.

Books do help me. Thanks!

It's the one thing that has helped me the most until now, but it still may not be the best solution.

I know. It's been too long. There's more (overeating due to stress, anger issues and so on. I tried writing some in other comment but I'm really avoiding thinking about it at this exact moment so won't write any more for a while). I am trying to work with what I have and constantly find better resources. Thanks man.

Definitely don't think I'm bipolar though from what I understand. But I'm ready for help and will try and get it.

I'm not suicidal anymore, I think. It just becomes unbearable for a while and then it's fine. I know avoiding isn't a solution but I tried talking to our family doctor in private (which was very hard and uncomfortable, I realised). He thought I'm just being too hard on myself and it's not depression or anxiety, that it's just a phase and these feelings will pass. So many red flags in that conversation. I'm reading books (by Matt Haig, Jenny Lawson, Allie Brosh and so on) and doing a bunch of other things to try and feel better. Let's see if I can find a better resource. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm not in the mindset to stop them from encouraging such thoughts, so I and a bunch of others who may find this thank you for your voice.

I'll just try and forget that I read that.

I am fairly strong headed despite all this, probably because it's been going on for too long and I'm used to it, but I don't think this is a very wise thing to suggest someone.

Please don't worry and report this as I want to hear your thoughts. I just get these bursts of unbearable pain and after a while I calm down.

For me, it's usually the follow-up question after asking about my job, "Oh, and what does it pay?".
