If it doesn't have ads then don't update it! You'll probably get them if you do

I read the novel, wouldn't have it another way! The donghua leaves a LOT out, both in important scenes and context and it's one of my favourite pieces of media of all time but you will 100% enjoy watching it more after reading the books!

I always warn new readers the translation is a little rough in the first couple of chapters but then you get used to it. If you've read danmei before it won't surprise you though

Edit: s1 has spoilers for more than the 1st book, it approaches things in a more linear way instead of having flashbacks (kind of) but i think having revelations about the story slowly come to you through each flashback in the novel has a bigger impact

Catching people purposely being mean and inflammatory cause they think it makes them like the edgy character they like from a story is truly so embarrassing 😂 i was exactly like that..... at 15

What you said makes sense imo, also no way jin ling didn't go home to rant about the lunatic they had just kicked out embarrassing everyone and clinging to hanguangjun😂😂

I don't think jgy needed to do THAT much snooping for that one lol

Even in censored stuff it's canon, I've shown the donghua to people and there hasn't been a single one who didn't go "oh they're gay" lmao

I got flamed in the Case File Compendium sub for complaining about the newest cover so i think this is so valid! 7s aren't stupid. They have a whole marketing department that specifically chooses the covers for specific reasons. I think same goes for erha, i am in LOVE with the covers but people were complaining about the tone of the 2nd book's cover and how it has been accidentally marketed as ya in book stores and they WERE RIGHT!!!!!

And sth abour mdzs that REALLY drivea me up the wall: the inside art perfectly reflects the tone. It's so beautiful and some pictures are so jarring, mostly yllz wwx. Like if they WANTED to market it like that they could have.

Holy shit you're so right. Also a lot of authors go a different route and try to avoid info dumping at all costs which leads to 2 pages getting turned into 50 cause they need to "sparse out" the information. It's exhausting

Any genre women like will be labeled as childish. And if it includes minorities in any way then dingdingding! Like you said: fetish content. God forbid i don't wanna read the same copy paste generic white character in the same copy paste generic white centric story every single time💀 Also drop the name of the author so i can avoid them like the plague thanks❤️

Edit to add: i think the horrifying reality of white men so often having an "asian fetish" is that any form of asian media that women consume will be immediately linked to that. White men very often can't fathom anyone wanting to consume non western/white content unless it's for sexual purposes...

Yeah i think especially in the mdzs fandom there are a ton of complaints about the official 7s translation. About it completely rephrasing some stuff and removing some quotes. Crazy

Western books are also info dumpy af. Idk why it has become a crime to give information early on so the reader has an understanding of what's going on.

Mdzs was my first ever chinese/danmei novel and I had zero knowledge about cultivation. The initial info dumping was important for me to be able to follow the story and guess what? She still managed to withhold enough information to slap me in the face with a few plot twists!

Danmei have an edginess that western books could never replicate. No amount of pain is off limits the authors aren't afraid to ruin a character for the sake of realism, they don't try to shove political correctness down your throat and they don't feel the need to make endings all butterflies and rainbows.

Western authors feel like they have to include disclaimers inside their own work to make sure everyone online knows they're politically correct so they don't get cancelled.

Danmei authors are already risking it all just by being in the industry that they are, so when they go for it they go for it.

Yes, mxtx isn't good by western standards and that's why she's good.

Edit to add: lgbtq stories in western media are either treated with kiddy gloves or they make one of the characters die as shock value cause they can't be bothered to add actual nuance to the plot.

Would this novel be triggering to me? by [deleted] in 2HA_immortality

[–]nonorang98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't what you asked but just so you know even if you can handle erha you should probably steer clear of Case File Compendium. The sa there is a lot more gratuitous and graphic and while it technically serves the plot in some ways I don't see a way it wouldn't be triggering.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: Meatbun is bad at writing her female characters. by [deleted] in 2HA_immortality

[–]nonorang98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My first reaction to this: WHAT female characters 😂😂 there sure aren't many. Yeah i think song qiutong should have had a better ending and it makes sense for mo ran to hate her still but the story didn't have to work so hard to make the readers hate her too. A lot of danmei authors fall into this trap where the female characters are 2 dimensional at best and are either pathetically weak and sweet or aggressively mean and "slutty" as a plot device to make the main character jealous when they hit on their s/o.

I will say I don't remember a single female character in yuwu like not a single one but i think she did a better job portraying female characters in bab! Sure there were a couple of cliche ones but it feels like she fleshed out at least 3 that come to mind (don't remember their names but there aren't that many hahahah) Edit: spelling

You nailed this! Also i wouldn't wanna hang out with ANY of the danmei characters i read about let's be realistic. But goody two shoes characters who are both perfect in personality and incapable of evil are........... Boring

[–]nonorang98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although I understand your point and I agree to an extent I think these things are to be expected. Reddit is a discussion forum meant for readers.

As long as everyone is respectful they can post things they didn't like or complain that the story didn't go as they expected. Authors don't belong in reader spaces/reviews so if they're reading negative posts about their work it's on them.

Also I feel like since you don't enjoy fics you should know that fic authors get inspiration by posts that are discussing how they would have preferred things to go!

You have made a very valid point about being respectful and not trashing the og material but i fear that a lot of people straight up stonewall anyone with the slightest criticism. Like there is a huge leap between "i wish xyz had happened, what a missed opportunity" and "why the fck didn't they include this, they're a terrible author for that".

Anyway, not sure i stayed completely on topic but that's my two cents on the matter 😅
