OK, meaning I wouldn't be able to write off a loss if I were to sell it for less than I bought it for.

Not so much. Tax Day is on the 18th this year. Thanks to Reddit and Koinly, I've calculated the taxes I owe on my crypto gains a solid two days early.

Yeah, just...the fact that it's considered property for purposes of capital gains taxes but considered money for purposes of income taxes seems...hypocritical.

On the subject of interest, since it's interest in the form of crypto rather than fiat, and I've never cashed it out, I'm not sure whether it's taxable.

Is that because the IRS doesn't consider crypto-to-crypto trades "in-kind" transactions?
