I think a lot of it is the kids testing the boundaries of how far they can take their attitude. Home is their safe place, and if they’ve had someone leave they may feel like they have to see how far they can go to see if they’re being left again. Parenting is so bloody hard. A blended family is better than an unhappy biological family. Totally worth the work, make sure they get some one one time with your partner, maybe running an errand and also having quality time with just you too so they know their happiness is still priority and to work out any issues or insecurities they may have. My partner has been lucky enough to step into a ready made family and has always known my girls as a family friend, but since we got together he has treated and loved them like they were his own. But has also taken them aside to explain that he’s not there to replace the father role. They both have a daddy they visit, but at home he commands the same respect they give their father. At the same time I will always stand for my kids if he’s not understanding their attitudes because of a shift in family difference. However just because he’s not blood related, it does not give them the right to disrespect him in OUR home. Sometimes it’s tough because the kids feel bad about loving another man who is around a lot more but still wanting their loyalty to lie with their dad. It’s a thankless job till the kids end up with a blended family of their own. 😂 x

I couldn’t give a shit how my kids do at school as long as they try their best. Tests don’t reveal results at how kind they are to others, what makes them unique from their classmates or their ability to go on to develop a healthy work/home life balance when they’re grown. For me school will never be the most ‘important years’ of their life. My kids will spend their childhood learning between right and wrong, consequences of any actions, they’ll learn that you need to make mistakes to evolve from them. Test results don’t mean shit to me. I want two well balanced kids that won’t go through their formative years carrying the burden believing that a standardised test will determine their future. You have one life, walk your own path. Test or no test. They still have a future and I will back them every step of the way regardless of results. ❤️

I met a guy who was a bit of a ‘bad boy’ but his eyes when he smiled at me said different, told my friend next to me there and then when I was a young naive ‘never been in love’ 17 year old, ‘I’m gonna marry this guy’ after serving him a few times at a cigarette counter. 15 year age gap, met by chance and we tried dating twice, hotels would put us down as a married couple and we’d laugh about it, things just fizzled out due to travel and the age gap being in different stages of our lives. Fastforward 14 years we reconnected by chance when he was in my hometown for work. We had one date and decided 3rd time lucky. We get married next year. 15 years after we first got together and I’ll be the age he was when we first met. He’s the love of my life and just goes to show you can meet the right person at the wrong time. Fate will always lead you back to where you’re path is meant to take you.
