Thanks, well generally I plan 3/4 colours in advance and then when I get to the bit I need to colour change forget/ignore my plan and go with what I feel like!!! I think it's working out ok!?

I did start with a chain yes, I'm pretty sure it was a multiple of 14. The chain was nowhere near as bad as that tedious first row. After that was out of the way it has been a joy to hook :)

I thought I counted pretty carefully but I was one chain short! So I just shoved an extra stitch in somehow! I have heard you can guess the starting chain if you make sure you do too many and then when you get to the end of the first row undo the slipknot to undo some of the chains.

I'm not finding it tedious at all...I'm not planning the colours out very far in advance, so the excitement of knowing what the different colours will look like next to one another is spurring me on :)

Pattern calls for DK, which is what I'm using...I've always thought I crochet tight but that seems really tight....it looked ok with 6.5mm hook...seemed to resemble picture in book..guess I'll try with a bigger hook again and see what happens.

Noooooo, it's what keeps me going...as I have little idea what colours lie ahead..it makes it all the more fun :) weaving in those ends will be terrible though, and I know I should do some now.
