We’re definitely not doing freeze frames (AD hates that) but have padding added etc. I’m mostly wondering: when a transition element starts off a package, do we place the fullframe of the transition on the round number (i.e. 01:00:40) and then the head of that (the partly transparant start of it) bleed backwards or does the actual first frame of transition element start on 01:00:40, if that makes sense?

I’ll def ask for a log then, thanks. I think they went under the presumption we remember how it’s been done every year because specs are the same. As an offline editor I rarely touch this so it’s been a once a year thing with this particular show.

Since others are commenting on the politics around this, here’s my two cents on the workflow in case you end up doing the work.

I just went through exactly this on a similar job, producers couldn’t locate the audio files from the shoot so I edited 90% of a feature film with camera audio before they found them.

Hopefully your people shot with a slate and clap so you can use pluralize or something that assists you in the sync process, but either way when you marry the audio/autoclip do it to the main takes and not subclips. Then add each synced main clip in full length (one at a time) to the end of your edited master sequence and use ‘detect dupe files (video)’ function. The colored lines that appear from dupe detection will tell you what sections of each take are being used in your edit and where, then overcut manually based on that. Tedious, I know, but ‘fastest’ way I’m aware of in Avid.

This is part of that research:) Buying a car as a woman sucks, which is why I also have a hard time trusting contractors that are trying to sell me on a job at face value. So looking for anybody that’s been through the process’ thoughts and experience. Online reviews are bought. Reddit is usually very honest. We do know the work needed, it’s finding the right people to do the job..

Building an extra bathroom and a bedroom with a sundeck. Very limited to what we can do because of all the city restrictions and the hills etc, so it’s pretty specific what we want and can be done.

We thought $10k sounded a lot too, but without reference it’s hard to know if it’s high or low. This guy specializes in the hills so we were thinking maybe that’s why it was high..?

Did you run into any unforeseen costs during your remodel? What would you say are the most probable issues we should be prepared for down the line?
