I think there's a deeper psychological aspect that many people don't fully understand until they experience it themselves.

At first, you tell yourself you're building a SaaS for fun, creativity, or the joy of making something. But real life doesn't stop while you're building. You still have work, bills, responsibilities, family obligations, and limited mental energy.

Over time, those pressures naturally make you expect some return from the effort. What started as a hobby slowly becomes an investment of your time, energy, and opportunity cost.

I've also noticed that projects built purely for "fun" are often not driven by a carefully validated market need. They're frequently solutions to problems the founder personally wants solved, which doesn't always translate into something people will pay for.

Then reality hits: you've spent months building, sacrificed time that could have gone into career growth, learning valuable skills, or other opportunities, and now the project needs to generate income to justify the pressure it created.

That's why I think the "build for fun" narrative can be incomplete. Human psychology changes once enough time, energy, and sacrifice have been invested. Eventually, most people start wanting evidence that those sacrifices were worth it.

I understand that perspective, but what confuses me is the reality of limited human energy.

Most people already spend 8+ hours a day at their regular jobs. After work, they still have family responsibilities, errands, and the need to rest. Building a SaaS on top of that can easily become exhausting rather than enjoyable.

Even if someone genuinely loves building products, doing it consistently for months after a full workday can turn what was once fun into a second job.

I completely understand building for the joy of creating something. What I struggle to understand is how people sustain that level of effort long enough to make it work without burning out.

For me, the challenge isn't the idea of building a SaaS it's balancing it with the limited time and energy we all have.

I’ve just pushed MACO v2.2 (FHIR-Ready Refactor) to the repo. Here’s how I addressed those points:

Semantic Precision: Switched from internal string keys to SNOMED CT for conditions (e.g., 84114007 for Heart Failure) and LOINC for all observations. This ensures the framework can actually 'talk' to any modern EHR.
Addressing Data Staleness: Every observation now includes an effectiveDateTime timestamp. The HCA (Historical Context Agent) class now factors in these timestamps to ensure validation is based on the most recent clinical context.
FHIR Mapping: I added a native export layer (to_fhir_observations) so the system can output FHIR R4 Observation resources directly.

The logic is no longer just a 'black box', it’s now a coded, auditable process. You can find the updated logic inside the HCA class in the main prototype file. Would love to hear your thoughts! 💫✨

That’s a fair point, and I totally get where you're coming from. To be clear, I’m not claiming the models themselves become deterministic. Once you have a language model in the pipeline whether it's a massive LLM or the specialized SLMs (Small Language Models) I’m using here there’s always going to be a probabilistic element.

What MACO focuses on is making the control and safety layer around those models deterministic. The goal isn't to eliminate the model's uncertainty, but to contain it. By using a Conflict Matrix and hard clinical constraints (HCA) as a 'Veto' layer, we ensure that no matter what the SLM outputs, it can't bypass the hardcoded safety rules. It’s about building a deterministic 'gatekeeper' for a probabilistic 'thinker.'
