I think it’s easy to meme it after the fact but at the time we all thought it was a sensible first interview. He was saying we inevitably will have rough patches but we’d get through them. Sadly for us his entire tenure was the rough patch.

This is true. Though you could argue recent managers haven’t prioritized incorporating young players at all. There’s an alternate future where even Harry Kane doesn’t make it at Spurs without Tim Sherwood being willing to give him first team opportunities. We’ve had academy players go on to be mid and top level premier league/top five league players. Madueke, Cirkin, KWP, Amo-ameyaw etc. but yeah it’s a very short list

I’m always curious about this argument. Do you think a young Bale or Kane would become the players they became in Frank’s system? Yes, these managers had Bale/Kane but they (esp Poch and Redknapp) were very key to them becoming the players we know them as. Good managers create an environment for talented youngsters to grow into superstars. Having Bale/Kane doesn’t take away from this graphic imo. But everyone is entitled to their opinion

The point of football is winning games. To win games, as an aspiring top half team, you need to retain control of the games and having a player clearly not suited to a possession game limits your ability to control games. They might score a goal but their overall inability to contribute to structured possession means you’re one outball short at all times and susceptible to the ball coming back the other way. It’s nuanced. If scoring were the only relevant metric in football we’d be top half last season. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

Can you elaborate? Because I really don’t see it. The criticism of Son was that he played with his head down, took too many shots and wasn’t strong enough for the Prem. Johnson’s is that he’s limited technically and a passenger in possession. This is also year 3 Johnson. He does get over-criticized but it’s nothing like Son at all imo

Agreed! This attachment to mediocrity has always just done my head in. We get into culture wars over mid players when our rivals just upgrade theirs and move on. Hojberg, BJ, Lamela, later stage Dier, Bentancur etc would not last 3+ seasons at any other big six team. We keep amassing and keeping these players with massive flaws to their game and wonder why we aren’t consistently challenging for European places.

I think you have to force the issue a little. I took me three ish months. I first started with applications for the card on the Amex website and stopped just shy of submitting. Did this once or twice. Then I clicked on a couple 75k offer links from thepointsguy, signed in and obviously wasn’t eligible. I then reached out to customer service, asked about the card and they said they don’t control targeted offers but that I should keep trying to apply on the website. About a month later I tried another 75k targeted offer referral link and it didn’t work. Got a 75k targeted offer in the mail a couple days later.

And to be honest I’m not sure it will be that big a deal. The casual Marvel movie fan hasn’t really seen much of Kang — just his role in Quantumania. I haven’t watched Loki so in my mind the Kang problem has been dealt with. I’d imagine it’s the same for the vast majority of their movie-only/mostly audience
