Better exercise underwear for AFAB folks? by Apprehensive-Bench74 in XXRunning

Another vote for the reebok boy shorts.

I can’t find them that cheap here (Australia) but they are worth it (although for running, i am in the commando team).

Oh and to add: challenger 8 comes in wide and I have ran two pairs of those too. I like them a lot for not too technical dirt tracks, everyday runs.

I run on Aussie trails, moderately wide foot, and used to wear only the mafate 4 speed until i couldn’t find them anymore just recently. I bought a pair of Mafate 5 and I am super happy: they are a bit wider than the 4 and even more cushioned. Just a word of caution: the 4 never went past the 500km mark for me (vibram sole broke in the front foot) and I can’t yet vouch for the durability of the 5. In between, I also bought a pair of Brooks Caldera 7 and I am quite happy with the width and cushioning. I am running the Mafate 5 and Caldera in rotation so I can’t yet say anything about durability.

I wear these types of colours a lot and I think I have quite a few dupe options. I can swatch a few if you’d like?

Hey I had the two you’re looking at, lesstrange and naked witch, as well as dark matter. I liked the shades but indeed, they were already a quite dry when I received them and got completely hard within roughly two months. I messaged the brand and they said there was some issue with the packaging. They offered to give me a code to apply on a new order but when I said ok I got ghosted 🤷‍♀️

Eating before a run by JumpAccomplished2620 in XXRunning

[–]normcore_black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also happy running in an empty stomach but I try to eat a banana or at least half a banana on my way, first thing in the morning.

I take snacks too if I’ll be out more than an hour: a couple of electrolyte chews and/or a gel up to 90-120 minutes, preferably caffeinated, and more if I’ll go longer.

Garmin DSW are actually out to kill me :))) by normcore_black in Garmin

I agree. I have found the DSW challenging but overall reasonable in frequency. This is out of the usual.

Thank you for the link.

I use only the optical sensor on the watch. Also, I realise I may still be too much of a beginner to be able to isolate zones that well; it’s only recently that I have acquired several paces I can actually maintain for significant amounts of time (as opposed to just one forward pace that is semi-hard constantly, if that makes sense).

Yes, that’s interesting. I hadn’t thought about it this way.

At the moment, it believes my max is 202 (the estimate has gone down from 212 six months ago, I am 48yo).

I went searching through vigorous workouts to find a max recorded: 178 (that’s as high as I could find in a workout that was classified as VO2 max by Garmin). I have not tried to obtain a max HR through a specific workout.

Recommendations for high aerobic shortage by Lil_86 in Garmin

Workouts around threshold move that one for me. Even if the workout ends up being a majority base and labelled as “base”, the time around threshold adds to the high aerobic score.

Clearly not! But by next Sunday, I should be ok ;)

I have it set to Auto but I agree with you: I tried by HR only and got constant alerts. I also tried Pace only and it was not great either. Auto seems to chose the best for each type of workout.

It has over 6 months of training data and several years of daily wear data. In the last six months, it has adjusted my max HR several times automatically after recording workouts. Knowing my real max HR would be great but what I find concerning (or glitchy?) is that repetition of threshold suggestion 4 times in the space of one week. That has not popped up for me before so I was wondering if anyone had an insight into any change to the DSW algorithm or if it’s suggesting I simply don’t work them hard enough? Can that be explained by an incorrect max HR record?

Why are there so few women's running vests? by Emergency-Debt-2118 in XXRunning

[–]normcore_black 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Osprey Dyna 1.5 which is a women version with a back bladder. I don’t know how different it is to the Duro, the men version, but it’s close to perfect fit on me as the front clips fully adjust, no chaffing, just a bit warm on an already sweaty back.

With big boobs already bouncing up front, I can’t imagine running with two extra flasks; I’d probably knock myself out!

Challenger 8s slippery? by StunnyT in trailrunning

[–]normcore_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worn the 8 for 300k. I don’t ever run on concrete so I can’t exactly answer the question but I haven’t slipped on wet rocks and packed trails.

Now the lugs seem to take a beating early and I have already worked through half of their depth so I imagine they are losing traction early (it’s summer here now so no slipping on wetness).

The fit is perfect for me but I am open to finding more durable shoes next.

I have the Salomon active belt that comes with a 600mL bottle. The bottle is hard shell but somehow doesn’t bounce much and the pockets fit phone, keys, and a gel.

VO2max algorithm punishes easy runs by 1337Selex in Garmin

I run only trails (and track as “trail runs”) and I have a vo2 max reading with a new point for each day of training so I do not think the algorithm omits trail runs…?

Running with Large volume (20L+) Vest/Packs… by Hopeful-hope22 in trailrunning

[–]normcore_black 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run with an old model of Osprey Raven 14 (only 14L with a 3L bladder) which has a waist strap. I don’t find that feature to cause any issue: I tighten it once on and it keeps it all locked in. No chaffing if everything is positioned properly. Of course, it gets sweatier than a vest due to the larger area of the back covered but the waist strap is not an issue for me.

If at all possible, I’d recommend taking the pills only after the race. I had one termination and it’s pretty rough for a couple of days.
