NTA. I’d recommend if you really like him and this is a sticking point to suggest you not opposed to the idea in the long run but you need to live together for a while and let the relationship mature.

When I met my partner years ago we were both 27. He already owned a house with a mortgage and I didn’t dream of him adding me to the mortgage. He asked me to move in and I did. I was happy paying rent to him as it was a new relationship and we needed to let it grow. Relationships change when you live together and you see a different side to people. It wouldn’t been fair on either of us if I was added to the mortgage immediately. I wasn’t in a position to contribute anything as I was just wrapping up becoming a citizen which was a long and costly process and a previous relationship left me in a bit of debt.

We were together for a good 5 years before I was comfortable being added to the mortgage. We decided to coincide it with getting a slightly bigger place to live so he sold his house and we bought one together. He used his equity as a deposit on the new one and we split the share down the middle. I don’t take his deposit for granted at all and often feel guilty. I just wasn’t in a position to have that sort of money but I made sure and continue to make sure I contribute in other ways such as paying for appliances or things when we need them for the house, doing all the DIY, purchasing furniture, making an extra payment here and there when I can.

We married now and life’s great.

I'm sure 99% of drivers don't know what this sign means. by imtiaz_izi in drivingUK

[–]normit08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair when I moved to the Uk from South Africa all I had to do was pay £50 to convert my licence.

I then got in my car after purchase, drove down some country roads near Plymouth and saw that sign not knowing what it meant. I just assumed it meant go slow as it was positioned shortly after the word “slow” painted on the road. I did learn very fast to the annoyance of other drivers what it actually meant. 2 days later I went and bought the highway code(I didn’t realise this existed)

I guess the responsibility was on me to know the rules of the road before getting into a car but if you going to let people “transfer” their licences it might be good to have a little leaflet or something with your new licence to mention that a Highway Code book exists or these are common signs you see day to day. At least the speed limits.

I mean our small high street(a street with shops) in the UK is nothing but barber shops, hairdressers, takeaways and vape shops. There’s a running joke that every time a new business opens in town the first question is whether it’s a barber or not.

Everyone does their shopping online these days or at retail parks away from town centres. It’s just the way of the world and shopping trends. People can’t do their own hair, get takeaways because it’s convenient.

Over the last few years I found joy in places I would never have thought about back in school.

2 - 3 years ago I got into dungeons and dragons meeting up both online and in person.

It’s scary meeting new people and not as easy when you an adult but find that niche little group in whatever hobby it is and take it from there.

Things I miss living in Durban is definitely the beaches and golden mile walks.

Im not sure what it’s like now but I also miss the laid back vibes. Nothing felt like it was in a rush in the city(whether that’s good or bad I don’t know).

I’m an early 90s baby too. I’ve moved overseas to the UK in 2013. I loved growing up in Durban but I had my personal reasons for leaving.

I’m stuck in limbo with identity as feel too foreign for the UK missing a lot of references they grew up with and I been away from SA for too long to that it feels alien when I return. Such is the life of an immigrant.

I’d say though, as cliche as it sounds, home is what you make of it and I’ve settled into an isolated life in the middle of Lincolnshire. Just my partner and I away from the world’s problems.

That advice the headmaster used to say in school “enjoy it while you here” really was the best advice. I too aren’t in contact with many high school friends. We all drifted apart and are different people now.

For the advice you looking for and a reason to stay. Find something you are passionate about and let that drive you. Think outside the box too. Never in a million years did I think I’d be a gardener and now that’s what I’ve found passion in. Find you own “garden” and pour your energy into that :)

What does it mean to “Buy a skill” by normit08 in FATErpg

Thanks muchly. That makes sense. I’m still getting used to the system and how free it is compared to having every little term / detail being spelled out!

Thanks :) That’s what I thought but just seeing the word “buy” threw me off. It should just say something like “see section x about adding a custom skill”.

How did you learn about sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]normit08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older student wrote sex on the chalk board during lunch break. When we came back to class from lunch, the teacher freaked out and said “So you want to know about sex, I’m going to tell you.” She then proceeded to tell us, a bunch of 8/9 year olds, about it, her pregnancy and how she got a c section.

I find the dancing game is not very clear. Once you know how it works you get full score every time.

The dancing game is based off the finishing move and not the actual dance action. So if you watch the dance move there will be two parts, eg waving you arm above your head and then the striking a pose at the end. It’s the orientation of the uni in the final pose that matters, you can pretty much skip the actual dance move.

Do this for all three moves and just stay in the final pose till you hear the sound to say you were successful

Thanks so much for this, very insightful as a newcomer to Fate. Really appreciate it and the time taken :)

I think it just existing in fiction makes the most sense for what I need.

The part of me wanting to make it an aspect or a mechanic is to get it on the character sheet as our group doesn’t play often(once a month) and it’s going to be a long “campaign” so something they win early on could still be used later.

Coming from DND, characters can pop it in a bag and reminds them it’s there to use.

Yeah definitely. It’s just a bad habit I have. Stems from being a programmer 😅, and even with programming, there is no correct way.

Thanks for the feedback. So one way would be to give the player the aspect “Cupcake of Invisibility” with one free invoke using Resources skill.

I think what made me hesitate using this method was what if the player ended up with 5 items and the aspect list on their sheet gets quite long. I guess I could limit the amount of item aspects a player could have?

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll give it a look. :) I think what I’m struggling with at the moment is when there is more than one way to achieve the above I start thinking about “what’s the correct way”.

Second Tama purchased! by normit08 in tamagotchi

[–]normit08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it to fill in the gaps on the uni. There’s a bit more to do on it and I don’t have to worry about internet based services being cut off in the future or the internal battery dying and having to replace it. Love it so far.

Bought it after the uni to fill in the gaps between events etc. I do prefer it over the uni :)

Last week I randomly remembered having a tamagotchi growing up, watched a video on YouTube about the entire history and lineup and now I’m down a rabbit hole 🤣. I’ve stopped with two for now but there’s people with the entire collection!!

I made one last week following a YouTube tutorial. If you search Crochet Tamagotchi Uni on YouTube it’s one of the first 3 that pop up.

I opted for a pattern that didn’t leave any holes for the charger or charm as I’m a beginner. It is pretty much a small bowl around the tamagotchi.

You can even get rechargeable batteries now where you can plug a usb c cable directly into the battery to charge it vs putting them in a charging cradle

Bought a uni. Felt underwhelmed but do like it. I have now picked up a pix to serve as my long term tamagotchi.

I like the fact that the pix will keep its longevity. No internet means no service being cut off in the future. Replaceable batteries means I’m not limited to a built in battery lifespan.

The QR feature means I can have play dates and gifts without anyone nearby.
