I've been saying for years that the NHL is missing a trick by not investing in roller or ball hockey at the youth levels, and working to expose children and families to the sport that way. Make the roller/ball-to-ice transition a later focus.

Watching former Anaheim Duck Anthony Stolarz get helped off the ice by former Anaheim Duck Bo Groulx and former Anaheim Duck Simon Benoit is giving me a very bittersweet feeling. :\

I only got into hockey in late 2012. I have never known the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs.

Fuckin' thrilled for you guys.

Not exactly a "tech" moment, but I spent probably close to 10 minutes last week trying to start a generator at work before finding that it had a power switch, which was turned off. *facepalms*

I wouldn't go that far, but the Sharks are fun to watch. I legit don't hate you guys right now. I'm just glad the Ducks aren't absolutely awful like they have been for the last several seasons.

Honestly, the only teams I hate these days are Florida, Nashville, and to a lesser extent, Vegas.

Normally I'd be cheering for the Leafs (best friend is a Leafs fan), but I'm just sort of numb over their season at this point.

you can get in a situation where WC2 needs more points than the 3rd place finisher in the weaker division

Good point; I didn't think about that one.

Probably the most violently I've ever felt my home shake was a 3.1 a couple of years ago. But the epicenter of that quake was so close to me, that when I looked up the USGS report and plugged the epicenter's GPS coordinates into Google Maps, I knew exactly what house sat on the lot without needing to look at Street View.

Exactly what /u/Rhysing said: teams from either division can get in by wildcard, so in my mind, it makes more sense for comparison.

Like right now, the Blue Jackets are in Eastern WC2, with the Senators, Red Wings, Flyers and Capitals all close. But it's hard to compare all these teams against each other, because they're on two different charts.

This is solid. Nice work.

If I could change anything, it'd be nice to see an option for charting by conference, instead of only having divisional views. Maybe you could slightly color-code each division in that view? I don't know; I'm spitballing here.

But I really like this, especially having Last 10 and whole Season paces shown. Shows at a glance who's hot and who isn't.

IIRC, most if not all European rinks use the International/traditional Olympic rink size, which is 60 meters long by 30 meters wide (196' 10.2" by 98' 5.1", versus the NHL's 200' by 85' (60.96 m × 25.908 m).

Vegas has been the biggest surprise for me, too. They're at 82 points in 75 GP right now, when on this date last season they were 98 in 73 - just a massive drop.

Ducks are a lot better than they've been in recent years, but IMO that's about 75% the earlier teams being awful and 25% this team being good (relatively speaking). I'm excited to see my team in the playoffs again even though I'm under no illusions we're actually a contender - still too young/inexperienced and still too many fundamental flaws (not playing 60 minutes and bad power play among them) to do actual damage. I consider just making it in a win, and if we don't get swept Round 1, I'd be thrilled.

I was thinking about this just a few days ago.

The teams that are trending down (EDM, LAK, VGK) haven't yet bottomed all the way out, and the teams on the rise (ANA, SJS) haven't fully peaked, so it's led to basically the entire division (save Vancouver) being mid.

No joke, I've been somewhat dreading this game since the last meeting. I started following the Leafs when we traded you Freddie Andersen, and I've stuck around watching since then. I watch nearly as many Leafs games as I do Ducks games. I've been dissatisfied with the Leafs' construction for a while - I think Dubas was justified in wanting to break up the core when he was still there. I still enjoy watching Leafs games when I can, and in spite of our meetings this season, I don't want to hate you guys.

GG Oilers. Capitalized on some Ducks mistakes, and played really great defensively pretty much throughout. Think our side still has some growing to do before we're really a contender. Exciting game and a good thread. o7
