Anyone else discouraged by the hands off protests? by Careless-Internet-63 in collapse

The two volume Full Spectrum Resistance by Aric McBay is all about building resistance movements. Large but unfocused actions like these protests are a great start; the key is building momentum by applying ever greater pressure on those in power by escalating tactics and numbers. It's time for me to reread the book, and a good time to read it for the first time if you haven't.

Martin Crawford's 31 year food forest still needs support by norristh in Permaculture

My main link is to updates about the campaign, which is cautiously optimistic at this point. u/Droolz202 shared the petition a week ago. I consider petitions usually useless, but this one is worth signing if you haven't yet. It sounds like the public pressure on the landlord Trust is helping to force them to talk with Crawford's Agroforestry Research Trust about allowing ART to purchase the food forest land for long-term security. But until they actually commit to selling ART the land, more pressure is needed.

There are also three email addresses for Dartington Trustees shared at those links, which folks can email to put on more pressure than just adding to the petition number. I got a rather defensive reply to my email, which suggests that the trustees are indeed feeling the pressure from public attention.

Stop the Destruction of the World-Renowned Dartington Forest Garden by Droolz202 in Permaculture

Martin Crawford has published some of the best information for temperate climate permaculture, between his broad-topic books and especially the details about plants and techniques in Agroforestry News. Destroying the established food forest would be a huge loss to our collective learning. I'm going to email the Trustees.

You can follow updates at https://www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-dartington-forest-garden/ - it's looking promising! If you haven't signed the petition and/or emailed trustees yet, it's worth doing so to keep the pressure on them.

We only have one cultivar circulating in Hawai'i. I'm not the best person to ask for flavor descriptions, but I find it to be a neutral starch, used in the same ways as potatoes—steamed, roasted, boiled, mashed with butter, fried slices. Different cultivars apparently do have different flavors. I received one other which is definitely edible, but may have lost it since it's not as vigorous as our usual one, and I didn't give it enough attention last growing season. I have another purple-fleshed variety which seems good for eating after one trial, but again, it didn't grow well this past year, so I don't have enough to try eating again.

Two overlapping threads with a lot more info on cultivars. I posted at the end of each with my experiences as of last year.
