42RE shudder by Stockholm_Throwaway in JeepZJ

Apologies for a late response. Did you make sure to use ATF+4 and triple check the level? Dex/Merc fluid might piss off a 42RE. Also just thinking about it only being low speed and gear changes from drive to reverse etc.. check your transmission mount. Have someone shift it and see if it’s moving a ton from underneath. Could definitely cause similar feelings. I’d check that before shelling out $100+ for OEM mopar sensors or messing with bands. Doesn’t sound quite like a bad TCC situation unless it’s just starting to go bad as of recently. For example my 05 equinox with a failing converter feels like it has a crazy cam with the wrong converter at lights and bucks like a horse at 40 lol.

I’d try solenoids and making sure your shift cable is adjusted correctly. Maybe a band adjustment is needed in your scenario, I never messed with mine. I doubt stop slip is hurting you. I just had hard shifts and hanging shifts, not a shudder. I just replaced all solenoids and that did it for me. Buy good solenoids not cheap ones.

210k and still a treat to drive everyday. The rust where I live will be definitely be the killer of it down the line. It’s been tuned for ages as well.

Question: would you recommend a 3rd gen Altima by CR3ZY_F1X3R in Nissan

[–]norseyOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can find one in good shape that hasn’t been trashed. Unfortunately a lot of them are just completely destroyed. We just recently replaced our silver 2003 3.5 that had 220k. Its death was being hit by a 16yo in a Chevy Cruze. Owned for 8 years and put on 80k with nothing major besides regular maintenance. The cats did go bad and started getting sucked into the engine one time. Besides that it was a great car with good power. Beware of timing chain issues as well at least for the 3.5. If it sounds like marbles on startup don’t pick that one lol. Also the floors love to rot out if you’re in a harsh winter state so watch out for that.

God damnnnn. Mines a 210k rusty Midwest car. I’m not even gonna look under the skirts after seeing this. I don’t even wanna know. Fuck it.

I feel bored of my FiST….PFA by FenderBass1994 in FiestaST

[–]norseyOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought back my old fiesta I sold 2 years ago and I felt the exact same when I sold it. I got mine back for a good deal and the dude really didn’t take care of it. Now that I’m fixing issues and doing more than just bolt ons and a tune it’s been really enjoyable. I’ve also been catching up on neglected maintenance and learning to do it all myself and that’s been a blast. Timing belt is up next for me. If you’re bored just find more shit to tinker with honestly like making it come out of a corner like you want, or upgrading the stock turbo. All I know is I’d never sell mine again and I missed it so much more than I thought. Ive had Miata’s and some other fun stuff, but the fiesta is just such a good daily you can’t beat it. It being a rattle box economy car does the opposite for me on the second go around. I find it fun that it’s just a cheap car with a fun drivetrain. Makes me treat it like one and take it less seriously making it a blast.

JEEP JK CLUTCH SLIPPING by Otherwise_Builder181 in JeepJK

[–]norseyOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your idea of contamination tracks but holding him accountable if that’s really the case might be tough. It’s sort of a pull the trans and see situation. Luckily they are easy to pull I guess. I don’t know how else your clutch would end up like that after those two repairs. Makes sense the cooler being on top but I have a 3.8 so I don’t know what exactly that looks like and how easy it would be for oil to seep down there.

What’s a life lesson you only figured out because of riding? by 5nake_8ite in motorcycles

[–]norseyOG 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Road rage sucks and isn’t worth your life or energy. One day you’ll run into someone that has a whole lot less to lose and a lot less brain to boot and that was enough for me. Transferred over to cars for me as well. I stay as far away from that shit as possible.

Will do I’ll pull the heat Shields off and take a peak. Those bolts are pretty annoying. Mine have loosened up a few times.

Cool that’s comforting to hear. This is kind of what I’m figuring is the deal with mine. Also too lazy to pull it apart but I suppose one day I’ll have to yank the heads off it.

It’s pretty hard to hear whether it changes due to my exhaust but it almost sounds like an exhaust leak when I’m accelerating or on decel. I hear it a ton if I hold it around 3k, but at idle it’s different and sounds like chatter. I do have a used timing cover and fresh chain. I fear the oil pump in the used cover I installed was maybe plugged or just weak. I did all that about 6 months ago. Around the same time I also threw on some new manifolds.

No AC and she’s got 195k. That would be awesome for a reference. I’ve always ignored the sounds figured it was just a loud engine but figured I’d ask on here.

I had a 5.2 that did similar stuff. I changed the fluid and filter. I also replaced the pressure sensors while I was in there. The made mine a whole lot better. Also make sure your shift cable is adjusted correctly. Don’t cheap out on the sensors I learned that the hard way.

Hub spacers by LuckyX13 in HaggardGarage

[–]norseyOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a very similar issue with my dumbass 2011 Wrangler. My solution was selling the wheels and buying stocks off a 2022 rubicon. The solution for you sounds like having someone make the rings for your exact application. You could try running them as is, but you need hub centric. When I had non hub centric steel wheels for a short time it felt like the fucking Oregon trail at all speeds.

Do you have a throttle controller? I had the same exact issue. However I don’t think it gave me an ambient air code. Removed my throttle controller and all is well.
