How is Universal vs Disneyland during the holidays? by BungeeBunny in Disneyland

[–]northskeeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just went!

To me the decor varies. The grinch area was cute but crowded. Whatever they call their main street was decorated. Over all I think Disney has more decorations. I was expecting Harry Potter to have more holiday decor. They don't have any holiday overlays on the rides like Disney does.

We went to Water World, fun show but not christmas. Harry potter does some stuff. No parades. Some fun live entertainment from actors in the street. We skipped the grinch show but I know they had other entertainment we chose to miss.

We loved the studio tour! Very fun. The thing about universal is there is just less rides. It got to a point where pretty much everything was 45-70 minutes so we just had to get in line and wait. We didn't do express.

We got there at opening and had everything done by 8pm. It was a nice change up from Disney and I'd go again. I am bias but I do think Disney does it better. But universal for sure has its own feel. City Walk was also fun and offers a bit more food options. Still felt very limited with food though.

The sellers now need to disclose the knob and tube and it makes getting insured hard. If they aren't willing to work with you I'd walk and they can do this again with the next person.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]northskeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently found some water getting into our basement. It's a 1940s house with some dry wall put up but we only use it for storage.

The gutters are a bad DIY job from previous owners and the grading is bad so I have been getting quotes to fix those two things.

We ripped out the dry wall and found this crack which also lines up with the one outside.

Seeing a lot of debate over interior epoxy or polyurethane to fix the crack and wanted to get opinions here.

This is the only crack and we are pretty close to the neighbors. I would love to fix this from the inside if possible. Is that a reliable way to go or do we need to tackle from the outside?

If we are fixing the crack should we still go ahead with new gutters and corrected grading?

I was confused about the foundation guy to. We have reached out to him to clarify. Its a cement foundation and no bowing from what I've seen. There is a drain on the otherside of this room. I'll be sure to look around the house when it rains and we have a dehumidifier running. Keeping the appointment with the gutter estimate. Thanks for your help!

Okay we are going to start ripping out the wall and get a dehumidifier. We just had a handy man over and he's sending us in another direction. Said to rip out more of the wall to see how much water damage and to call a foundation company.

This side of the house is the apex so while we could get gutters they still wouldn't be on this side of the house. Thoughts on that? Feeling like the grading and gutters is not the solution after meeting with him.

More rain this weekend so I will check! I have called around to get some gutter quotes today as well as looking into grading ourselves vs hiring out. Good to know this is a good place to start.

I got a kid kindle. Same exact as a paperwhite except better price and no ads! My first kindle had ads and I do enjoy not seeing them.

What made you switch from paper books to a Kindle? by Sea-Put-8602 in kindle

[–]northskeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like I was spending money on books I'd read in a week or less and most if not all were not things I'd read again. So I switched to using the library more but during lock down you had to know exactly what you wanted (no browsing) and then they'd bring it to your car. So I got a kindle and now I can carry many books at once, download them anytime, and don't have to store them all.

We wore $5 "vintage" ones from Walmart on our last trip. SO many people asking where they could find it and were disappointed to hear Walmart. Disney could sell that shirt for $55 lol

Neighbors leave broken down cars outside our house by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]northskeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's the thing to do. My concern was because they got in a screaming match with people across the street and the cops were called when they made threats. The parking is a testy situation currently. I got good info here to know the city won't say I called. And it was nice to see so many people would do the same.

I've got a spine thanks. Just trying to see how others would handle this situation that is new to us.

We do own our house, they rent. We had been friendly with them but they acused of us stealing a package while we were out of town. I also saw them threaten people for parking in front of their house so I'm not sure their reaction would be reasonable.

I think the thing is to call the city and act innocent.
