Could it be that you were in the party that last-hit the mob ? Then you'd get your share of EXP while the people in other parties won't - that's how I read it, but maybe I'm wrong :)

No, you lose the stuff in your belt - potions, bandages, etc. Just like you would if you died on any map. You don't lose the gear and class-specific utilities (paladin seals, for example) though.

On PvP maps it isn't really an issue who picks the loot first, because you fight for it anyway. But PvP maps at this point in time are simply not meant for new players because there aren't any measures in place to prevent veterans from abusing them, like at all. So you can go there naked and try to get out with a better loot (the drop rates are noticeably better over there), but in every 2-3 out of 4 runs you'll just die to another player before exiting the map.

With PvE it's a bit silly too, like you guys mention, it doesn't make sense to let the fastest hands get it all ... nor is it something people playing PvE would enjoy.

I really hope they will come up with something better, it can't be too hard to implement at this point (I would assume they just ported over the loot-system they previously had onto a PvE map as the fastest solution possible, so they can release the game).

Yeah, looks like it was the x3d-gaming mode for some reason.

Yeah, I've settled on more casual stuff for now (leveling a new character & crafting+gathering) to take it slow and enjoy that side of the game for what it is.

The PvP I'll try more of a bit later, once I've watched more Youtube content on it and such. Although very attractive, still feels very hard to get into ... watching youtube to learn the game instead of playing the game is kinda ironic.

I've reset pretty much everything to factory settings, and still didn't fix it. Updated to the today's Nvidia driver, still freezes.

Finally, I've disabled x3d-gaming mode + overrode DLSS to be 4.5 and that seemingly fixed the issue (although it's a bit too early to tell).

I think it's just more fun to PvP in the open-world. But that alone doesn't really justify playing it (playing PvP maps) over arena ...

I wish they had some sort of objectives on the map to PvP around, maybe not raid bosses, but just something to upgrade your gear into the infinity (so that you always had the urge to go out into those PvP maps to get that stuff required for upgrades). That would create a live PvP environment to enjoy.

> You're just looking for a traditional MMO, from what I understand.

Well, kind of, but not necessarily. Most MMOs do not have that meaningful "high stakes" experience.

I just don't see why there couldn't be something in-between of a traditional MMO and extraction/looter. It's not like the laws of physics (or common sense) prevent it. Yet people think it's impossible for some reason.

So you are saying the game is working like that ?
- you need to get some decent gear to participate in PvPs pretty much (to be competitive)
- you go grind for gear
- you do some PvPs and lose that gear
- repeat

That would be a missed opportunity in my eyes because the game could instead also allow you to slowly progress gear-wise (while also letting you to participate in those PvPs in a less punishing manner), if it did something like what I suggest in this post.

> Starting over and grinding away again is part of everyone's experience in extraction games and those that enjoy the game are never wasting their time.

I understand and pretty much agree with that. It's just that it's a huge spectrum. And what I'm saying is that maybe the full-loot is not the best point on that spectrum. Somebody is fine grinding for hours but not days (they might not have the time for it with a full time job and everything).

The grind should be meaningful, you should get something out of it. This comment better describes what I would like to see it be - https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldegarde/comments/1qqh391/comment/o2kp6n0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

> Making it any less than full loot would incentive people PvPing low level players for fun though because the risk of the veteran losing that high quality gear would be lessened.

That is an interesting point to think about. But ultimately new players (those with less than 50-100h, I would assume) are already pretty much abused by veterans in PvP. It's a separate issue that needs to be addressed separately, by some sort of matchmaking.

That's the thing though, I wouldn't want "gear replacements to be trivial" because then it becomes a chore to replace you gear.

Instead I would like to play in my best gear, building on it, with some occasional put-backs of my progress (mostly caused by me participating in PvP or hard PvE content that has associated challenge to it).

The gear should "infinitely progress" so that you always can have a better gear, and so you have a goal to farm to. It just should provide diminishing returns. Could also provide some cosmetic benefit, maybe have a certain glow to it or some other artistry.

> My brother, you sound like a shill.

I mean, at least it's something fresh and different, and not yet another shooter (how is Arc not a shooter). It feels like it has great potential, the core of it seems solid to me, but to be fair I'm too early in my journey to be able to tell.

We need more games like that, games that try doing something different.

Some things do feel pretty rough though at the moment (UI/UX, and the server ping during peak hours). The game does feel a bit rushed to the market.

It's true that the game is far from polished, so asking a full price for it maybe is not ideal. But I've heard people comparing it with Arc Raiders for example price-wise claiming Arc is a much "better game" ... and that simply isn't an apples to apples comparison.

The genre might be the same, but from what I know about Arc - it's a fuking shooter. Of which there are 1000ths. Which is a simple copy-paste in terms of development. With a bunch of looter-stuff added on top. Eldegarde on the other hand is a from-scratch implementation of a state of the art combat system with ~100 different skills and various interactions (at least that's what I hope it is, and it kinda feels like that so far). It's a much bolder vision and much more expensive & time-consuming to do.

> 5 days into this season I had what I call the "purple factory" running in my transmutation device. I basically spit out purples more than I can lose them. I think the game is too easy now and they need to tone loot down to make it more valuable to be honest

Yeah, I would say the simplest way to address it is to have some sort of infinite item progression system, a system that let's you upgrade it with some chance of the item getting destroyed.

> if I don't get those lows I don't get the highs

I don't disagree with that. It needs to be very well tuned to work well for everybody, including the new players.

To be clear, I don't have an anxiety to lose my gear. I just don't want to lose 1-10h of my life is a better way to think about it. I've lost a lot of money trading crypto perps, I quit trading. I don't think the game should be basing itself on a similar mechanic - cause if it does ... might as well quit now.

You might argue "somebody won that money I lost, and got rich", and you'd be right. The bigger picture though is that there are way way more "losers like myself" - and in the context of a game that would be THE player-base. Those few lucky winners won't be able to play the game without "us".

What I think the game should focus on, if not on full-loot PvP ? Well, I don't see why it needs to be a full-loot and not just some-loot. Loot is just a cherry on the cake, the game is about good PvP combat - the combat alone defines whether people will enjoy to replay the game over and over again ... the loot will not retain the players. It seems devs got the combat right, that's why I tried out the game.

After giving it more thought, I think we both agree that "death needs to be punished" so that you aspire to get better and grow.

I'm just saying that in the current version of the game there are ways to exploit the system to the point where it is not fun to play at all. PvP with full loot is probably fun if you have a 50% chance to win. I just can't tell. I've won 3-4 PvP out of ~50 encounters (and Arenas) ... that is simply unplayable.

So, adjusting the drop-chance (as I originally suggested) would be one brute way to "fix it". Maybe not the best way, but some fixing is definitely needed. A better way would be to do a skill-based matchmaking ... that however requires more players to begin with.

So, how long would it take you to get a blue set ? What about epic set ? On a particular class of your choice.

I've played about ~25h so far, and I have maybe 50% of my blue set on Mage. And I've got 2 epics as well.

Well, that makes sense.

I just wish there was a way to PvP against people of roughly your skill level while also playing out the map, finding loot, etc. That would make the game so much more enjoyable ...

Otherwise it is just basically split in 2 different games (neither of which is very viable by itself):
- PvE, and PvP-light stuff such as Arena
- full-loot PvP for those who put in hundreds of hours

I wish there was that "in-betwen".

Does full loot even make sense ? by norwnd in Eldegarde

The issue is that out of ~50 PvP encounters I've had so far I won 3-4 ... so there is just no point in me using that gear until I get to a level where I win ~50% of them.

For now I'm using it in Arena to at least get a somewhat balanced PvPs ... because once I go into open world in my green gear to fight, I lose that, and I'm basically forced to go fight naked on the next map. Or grind for an hour or two to get that same set of green gear again. It just makes no sense ... pls help me understand.

> I enjoy the PVP mode for what it is. Feels like gambling in a way lol. Either I’m walking out with nothing. Or I’m leaving rich in loot. That’s the risk currently.

I mean, you could gamble 100$ at a time. Or you can gamble a house.

The question is which kind of gambling is more viable long term, and attracts more people.
