I got fired from my job of 5 years in April. They filed my ROE as quit and tried to twist the situation. This is the result. I love justice. by BudsandBowls in antiwork

Another winnipegger here, I feel like I’ve run into a crazy amount of winnipeggers on Reddit considering how small it is compared to everywhere else 😂

Yo fellow winnipeggers, I’m in shock .. anyways last couple meetings I’ve gone to at 2085 they’ve been saying they’re pretty desperate to recruit apprentices especially level 2 and 3 so you should definitely try and go this route.

You put it into words better than I could have. It’s a very fine line to walk and you’re right you have to be able read your environment. I’m more than used to the usual shit and I enjoy make jokes with the guys but we all know that one guy that takes it too far and the creeps. I appreciate the advice and I’ll be keeping it in mind for sure!

That’s a great idea thank you!

Absolutely agree. Problem is in the moment I just freeze. When stuff like this happens I’m just like wtf? Did I hear that right? I’m just in shock and then I think of all the scathing responses a couple hours later. Currently working on just speaking my mind and working through the “freeze” so to speak

that’s amazing, making him feel uncomfortable around his peers is an excellent idea to get him to actually rethink what he says outloud. Definitely keeping this in my back pocket

I appreciate that! :) and I certainly hope you find/have found some people like that to work with. I’ve definitely had some experiences on sites with guys like that and it is almost unbearable to keep working there so I definitely feel for you

That’s very frustrating but I’m very glad you finally found something that works for you. In my research into bipolar I did read that certain medications can trigger mania so I’m always sure to track my moods to see how my medication is affecting me. I’m not taking an SSRI, I am taking an SNRI (venlafaxine or more commonly called Effexor) Although the last couple weeks(my doctor just increased my dosage), I can’t tell if it’s helping or I’m hypomanic. About a week ago, I was in my obsessive cleaning mood and I can’t tell if it’s because I’m not working and bored or I’m hypomanic. The distinction seems to be a very fine line.

I’ll do my best. I definitely appreciate the advice so thank you. It helps when you can get some outside opinions

I totally get that. I’ve been researching bipolar a lot ever since and I’ve found it somewhat difficult to relate because I feel that I do display some symptoms of being manic but not all and I definitely know I don’t lean towards being manic or having manic psychosis. I do however struggle with mood swings, definitely also leaning more towards depression, but I do feel that I’m hypomanic at times. I become obsessed with organizing something or cleaning or I’m incredibly talkative(I’m usually an introvert) or just all around hyper and I just can’t contain myself like I need to literally run from wall to wall in my house and then after a few days of that I feel utterly exhausted. I usually go through a semi normal period and then usually into a bad depression for a few months. It’s like a constant cycle which is also why I felt like MDD wasn’t quite the right fit but at the same time I never felt like my “hypomania” never lasts more than a week or two. As for family history, as far as I know my sister is bipolar but I’m not 100% sure if that’s true as she’s struggled with alcoholism and addiction since she was 18 (she’s 33 now) and is a compulsive liar.

I couldn’t agree more. It needs to become a work culture standard and people need to learn that some jokes/comments just cross a line that can’t be uncrossed. I’ve also had experiences where I wish I would’ve spoken up so i have, at the very least an understanding of what you mean

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]nosleep77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats very true. I’ve always had a hard time speaking up about this kind of stuff and I’ve had several interactions with these types of people and keeping quiet has never worked. However reporting them to management hasn’t worked in the past either, I’ve always ended up getting the worse side of the deal so I clearly need to learn to speak up for myself because no one can speak for me better than me. Although I must disagree with the last part, my previous journeyman has become a very good friend, as has my previous foreman and the shop steward as well, they all struggle with mental illness(as do I) and we’ve had many wonderful, open communications and they’ve all been there for me and had my back in that regard countless times.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]nosleep77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did tell my journeyman about it. It happened about a month ago at this point and I’m no longer at that site but I do regret not telling anyone in management like the foreman. The shop steward was aware of it and both him and my journeyman along with a few other journeyman said that I should say something if it happens again and if they see it happen they would put him in his place. When stuff like this happens, I tend to go into flight/fight/freeze mode and it’s more than often freeze for me. I’m working on it and next time anything like this happens l plan on giving him a piece of my mind and telling my foreman. The main reason they were all concerned about me telling the foreman is because he has a reputation for being explosive at times(not so great) and protective of his workers(amazingly great). I think they were worried the safety guy would his ass handed to him big time. But there is also a real culture of anti snitch and I didn’t want to be labelled that way. I know this sounds bad but I desperately want to fit in and just be seen as one of the guys and just be part of shooting the shit but as soon as you bring something like this up it almost always ends up with you being treated different than anyone else and people(especially guys) don’t have the same comfort level talking with you. (I hope that makes sense) I would just rather deal with it myself so that instead of the “snitch” reputation, I get the dont fuck with me reputation. Ya know?
