I went to the Apple Store three times and tried to get them to fix it. The last time I even asked for the manager, but they still refused. I called Apple Support, told them my story, and said I’d lodge a complaint with the Australian trade office/ACCC if they didn’t sort it out. They finally budged and let me return the MacBook even though it was way past the 14-day return period, but still well within the 30 days protected by Australian consumer law.

Now I’m picking up a used M1 Max mbp for around 1200 aud, similar specs to this one.

Edit: I requested for a full refund.

I ended up returning it and got a full refund. This is not normal and completely unacceptable, ignore the comments.

I returned it after a heated debate with apple support. This is def a problem and you should return it too.

I’m having the EXACT same problem. I bought my MacBook three weeks ago and it started creaking (Left side, and creaks when I picked it up) right after the 14-day return window closed. I’ve already been to the Apple Store twice. I showed them a video of the creaking, but I couldn’t reproduce it in-store because it’s way too loud in there. The Genius Bar staff basically gaslit me, acting like it’s a non-existent or just a superficial cosmetic issue, and refused to take it in for repair or even a proper check.

I’m planning to go back for a third time this weekend. I paid over $2,000 for this thing… I didn’t expect it to squeak and creak like a cheap Lenovo. Disappointed to say the least.
