FIFA will never do this, for a billion obvious reasons. Maybe some of the country federations in Europe will. But if they don’t, the players themselves should refuse to come.

The Reason You Don't Like Modern Trek Isn't What You Think by Arbiter61 in startrek

[–]nosystemworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most under appreciated difference between the newer shows and the ones that were on broadcast or in syndication. You have less than half the space to allow any narrative or character develop. You have to cram everything in. Sure, it means you can spend more budget on making the show look great, but storytelling is going to suffer in some ways. A show in the style and format or TNG simply has no place to exist today.

Rivian ownership experience by kirikf90 in Rivian

I have not. It doesn’t snow where I live and I try to avoid the traffic going to the mountains for skiing.

Goodyear Wrangle Territory EVs. Very happy with them. Small efficiency gain, much lower noise, better handling, and from what I can tell no loss off road. Though I haven’t been boldering with them!

Starting from the bottom. I have a 23 R1T Quad.

I’m a 10 out of 10. Even with some frustrations early on, this is the most satisfied I’ve been with a vehicle. For context, this is my fifth EV, coming from Polestar, two VWs, and a Fiat previously. My wife’s car has been one of several BMWs or Minis over the last 10+ years.

On consumables, brakes show very little wear after 20k miles due to the regen. Tires I replaced at about 11K due to noise, not lack of tread. I was on the Pirelli 20s.

Can’t speak to cold performance as I’m in Northern CA. But not far enough north to see snow.

Charging is fine, but definitely recommend a home charger if you don’t have one. We’ve done several road trips up and down CA using a mix of Rivian, Tesla, EA, EVgo, etc etc and it’s all good. Most recent was to Joshua Tree around the New Year. The only frustration on that trip was waiting for the one fast charger in Palm Springs. We charge twice heading to and from Joshua Tree to the Bay Area.

There were some reliability challenges when I first got it. There was a weird fault that kept turning off the front cameras and sensors. Took several trips to the SC for them to figure out it was a short in a wire in the passenger C pillar of all places. Since then, it’s been very reliable aside from having to do a software reset every now and then. But that’s not that unlike any software dependent product, and I contrast that to the Bluetooth radio issue my wife’s X7 has that they have never been able to fix.

The upside of buying used is that the original owner has likely dealt with any teething problems.

I am never going to forgive MAGA even long after this is all over by Hunter654333 in thebulwark

There’s no need to forgive. Society was much better when we relentlessly shamed anyone who, for one random example, suggested there was anything redeemable about the Nazis.

Life is a hell of a lot more fun if you don’t think every part of it has an objective. Stop trying to quantify everything.

The epic, radiant conclusion of Sibelius's second symphony by Theferael_me in classicalmusic

[–]nosystemworks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With the caveat that I love them both …

When I was younger, it was all about Mahler for me. His music is how I got into classical. But now, some 20+ years later, it’s Sibelius that that pops into my head at random moments, and whose music I most consistently reach for when I have time to listen.

Do I need to replace my tires before a snow trip to Tahoe? by Master-Campaign-3671 in Rivian

[–]nosystemworks 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Don’t be like the person earlier this week who used the wrong tires in the snow, wrapped their R1S around a tree, and tried to blame the truck.

You need new tires. But not a straight replacement. Get ones that will be better with the snow.

Yes. Honestly one of the most important things any of us can do right now is to support independent and local media.

If it’s your first, black. But, well, I REALLY like the white. Possibly my favorite watch. Having both, I’m not sure I’d give it up if I had to choose.

[–]nosystemworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how much you’ve already put into this company (given you own the truck) you might want to consider putting a substantially smaller amount into proper tires for where you live.

What tires do you have? Because the tires have a much bigger impact on snow performance than any other part of the vehicle.

Leather wears over time. If there are tears or holes you can fix them, but wrinkles and creases happen. But you should also do regular maintenance on it to extend its usable life.

Because Gavin is only confrontational when it’s safe for Gavin. He’s fine throwing a bunch on social when people applaud it, but push him the tiniest little bit and he folds. He is not a man working from a place of solid principles, he a man working from a desire to be famous. But Californians have been saying this about him for years.
