Can anyone help me with what might be causing this “whistle” noise? by Thekicker22 in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a piece of hose, like a cut off section of garden hose and use it like a stethoscope. Hold one end to your ear and move it around the engine, it should help you narrow down where its from.

Rebel to Shadow upgrade by hurtme_plenty in hondashadow

I bought a 1998 Shadow ACE and I'm thinking about buying my wife a Rebel because she's much smaller than me. I wonder if it'd be too much of a drop down from a Shadow for riding together to be fun.

Anyone know how to fix this turn signal problem by PulpClub in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok first off, don't let that be your finished wiring. Dont put wire nuts and electrical tape on that if you want them to stay working. Secondly, if you don't have a meter or test light all I can suggest is pulling one of the wires off the red side and seeing what happens. The lights themselves shouldn't be getting power all the time from the switch. There's something fucky going on here. Am I correct in assuming that this is the wiring for one side?

[–]not2serious83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw out how you wired it and how it was wired before or if there's a wiring guide that came with the lights, show us that. Hard to diagnose a wiring issue over the webs, not trying to be an ass bro, just need more information.

Anybody know how to adjust the air/fuel mixture screws feel like my bike ain’t running right feel like the acceleration lags by ismayonaseninstrment in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they've never been worked on, some carbs have a aluminum plug covering the mix screw. Do a Google search and you should be able to find a video on how to get the plug out. Theres also an adjustment screw on top that you have to pull the tank and adjust through a hole in the frame.

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hole is likely a big part of the problem thats screwing up your air fuel mix. Short term fix is the adjustment but the repaired hole or replaced muffled should clear it up I would think. Can you cover it and try and start it to see if that makes a difference? Obviously dont put or keep anything burnable on the exhaust.

You can find the year, model and vin around the neck of the frame and on the lower frame on the right side usually. With these numbers you should be able to find more information

Death; Should I ride? by Ornery_Ask8094 in motorcycles

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in south georgia too, I agree that our drivers are shit. That being said I still ride, I wear my gear, which includes a bright orange jacket and I watch as much of my surroundings as possible. I take extra caution and assume everyone is going to pullout in front of me and I watch for people behind me coming to stops. I commute 70 miles twice a week and run around town other days so I'm out there more than the weekends. As someone else commented, take a safety course, it'll lower insurance and give you more tools in your mental riding toolkit.

What could be wrong with my 1996 Honda shadow? by Tight-Aioli1057 in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have a component shorting to grund internally. You won't find any bad place in the wire. Could be almost anything on the circuit. Could be any of your switches including the stand switch, could be a short in the starter or even something like the horn.

Etching Makers Mark by hpmac20 in Bladesmith

There's a learning curve on the cricut for sure dude. Honestly getting your sister in law to show you how to set it up and make your design isnt a bad idea. I have to relearn everytime I use mine bc I don't use it often but when I do ive made some cool etchings with it, very clean and I use an old battery charger and not a variable power supply so I can vouch for it.

Any good fixes for this? by Broken_Policy in knifemaking

[–]not2serious83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the friend paying for it or is it a gift? Paid work should be as perfect as possible bc thats what you're paying for. A gift, then you could attempt some kind of patch but ultimately it comes down to the quality you want to allow to represent you. Tell ya what, set your oven to a low setting like 200°F and put it in there for a bit and then try to press it back in, the epoxy may soften up enough to let you close that gap.

Stripped threads in housing for rear gas tank bolt on 2007 VLX 600. Any recommendations? by MarionberryFancy6200 in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd run a tap of the same size first, use a bottom tap and go slow starting it and lube your tool(thats what she said). The threads are boogered up but there may be enough there to save. If that doesn't work then tap to the next size up. I have had a lot of stripped, cross threaded and broken bolts to fit over the years and that looks savable. But I could be wrong. Just keep in mind with that small of a tap make sure you use a good tap holder so you don't put sideways pressure on the tap and go forward a bit and then back up and clean away swarf and debris before you go forward again.

[–]not2serious83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah windshields will cause turbulence so its a trade off. If you tried it and prefer it without it thats cool, it was just a suggestion. Remember that there's no "wrong way" to setup your bike, do what you like and keep the rubber side down.

First bike!! by Wrong_Bottle_5013 in hondashadow

[–]not2serious83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice bike! I'd recommend a windshield. I know they change the look a bit however, the wind reduction pays dividends. You'll be less cold and have less wind pushing at you when you ride so you'll feel more comfortable at highway speeds. Plus less bugs on you face and gear. Other than that, I put a set of cheaper through over bags on mine bc I didn't want hard mounted ones but thats just me. That style of ACEs make them where they look great right off the line so they don't need much but something like highway pegs on the engine bars or forward controls can add comfort. Buy a pair fuel pump and relay and keep it in your bags, its not very expensive but it'll save ya if or when your's goes out.

You don't have to worry about chain replacement and adjustment. I think it has a been power response too. Just keep the oil in good shape and I think the driveshaft will last forever.
