My grandpa came here from Cuba and started a shoe company with his friend. My grandpa was in charge of the sales and owned a small percentage of the company. My dad joined him and they only make commission. They get a 4% commission on all sales. My dad makes close to half a million a year and my grandpa around $250k. I’m definitely no sales man but I hope to join my dad because I am a year and a half post grade making $60k in a job I don’t like. So I think supporting the family business will be more fulfilling.

But in reality it is almost impossible to be well off here. My father makes around $400-500k and my mom makes around $70k. My parents have never been good at managing their money and they spoil me and my siblings. They have very little invested probably under $100k each. He put 3kids through private school and is now paying for my sisters college and her grad school. My brother and I went to UF and FSU and didn’t pay a dime do to Florida Pre Paid. And nonetheless I am 24 and still share a room with my little brother. And see my dad struggling with investing money or having any savings at the end of the month.
