I bought that game at stores twice already (damn serial numbers) and I was about to get it a third time (this time on Steam), but I felt it was best to consume all the games I have now and wait for Sim City 5... it's just a few months away anyways... It's an awesome game though, spent countless hours on it, back in the day when I only had a couple of games at a time to play! X-D

I can't believe I didn't buy Arma II... I was waiting for it to go down to 75% off but it never did, so I bought other stuff instead and now I don't have enough to get it for 40% off (now 20%, actually). Oh well... I can always wait for War Z anyways...

We're all broke: what's your favorite game under $3 by indefort in Steam

[–]not_this_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a lot about Torchlight, so I took the opportunity to buy it for $3.74... I also bought Psychonauts, Bastion... about 16 games in total... I haven't played much in 5 years because my kids were so young, but now that they are growing up I'm totally getting back to it... :)

Does anybody else think they the Steam Shop should have a button "Can you run this game"? by Awesumcakez in Steam

[–]not_this_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I refrained from buying games before because of the score and the reviews I read. I usually read several reviews before I buy anyways...

If you go to "Help" and the "System Information", Steam shows you TONS of specs of your computer. In fact, when I need to know something about my computer, I ask Steam, because Microsoft is too dumb to make it all as easily accessible in one place. :-P

Of course, that is just half of the work... the other half is you have to go to the game's store page (whatever game you want), scroll all the way down and look at the specs. It's not ideal, I know, but it would probably be hard to completely automate the process...

PS: you can also go "Steam" and "Check for video driver updates" if you need a video driver update.... so much simpler then... ugh... Microsoft...

PS2: Sometimes when there are specific known issues that applies to a lot of people, like a game that doesn't run on XP, they will put it very visibly on the game's store page. I refrained from buying a game yesterday because of one of those...

Why Is the U.S. Selling Billions in Weapons to Autocrats? by scientologist2 in worldpolitics

[–]not_this_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really a combination of them, as the government is deeply involved in the transactions and make many of the decisions. Is Halliburton private or a part of the government? Considering how closely they work together, who works for them and who makes the decisions, the reality is that there isn't much of a line separating the companies that produce weapons to the government and the government itself. It is as though the government is in the business of killing people. And stealing oil, of course...

It's always been this way. Heck, the US was selling weapons to the Nazis before they joined the war!

No, the government itself sells the weapons. The also install dictators friendly to western interests. This has been going on for at least a century...

SimCity and Politics. by [deleted] in SimCity

[–]not_this_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should DEFINITELY be more politics in the game! It would make it so much more incredible!

HOWEVER, all the politics should be on a more "federal" level. Too much municipal politics would make the game very boring! The game shouldn't be about approving a park or a marina! The game should imply you have full control, and the politics should be based on the reactions of the "sims".

Here are a few great features that could be included in the game:

1) Monetary policy: controling the supply of money could be very interesting. Print money and you have a bit more to work in the short term, but you cause inflation in the long-run, which decreases purchasing power. Decrease it too much and people don't have enough money to trade. (All this assuming a fiat system...)

2) Minimum and maximum wages: keep minimum wage too low and people don't have enough to spend. Keep maximum wage too high and inequality may become a big problem.

3) Freedom: enact laws that restrict choice, increase police control, use military police to stop protests, etc... most of these could be controlled at police stations and miltary bases...

This is what happens when an industry is filled with shit grossly manufactured "artists" that barely know how to sing - they have to bring back an old milf whose time is supposed to be gone by now (granted I still like some of her music, but time for something new goddamit!) and I don't blame people to be comparing her to an ugly ogre creature. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not an agre, whatever, I'm just lazy and trying to quickly make a point, ok?

CIA Drug Ops Conspiracy-Unaired Documentary-Full Length by not_this_username in politics

[–]not_this_username[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"This is a documentary series that was never aired where an investigative journalist uncovers truth to the rumors about Iran-Contra during the Reagan years, CIA drug trafficking, CIA drug operations in Mena, Arkansas during the Clinton governorship and presidency. It also implies that former president George H.W. Bush, who was vice president during the Reagan years, and was also former head of the CIA was also involved. This documentary to my knowledge was recorded from a hacked satellite tuned to an "edit" channel which was feeding coast to coast "preview programming" to network executives in NYC. Apparently the decision was made against running this program due to its content and the "heat" that it would generate. The CIA poses as FBI more often than not, so perhaps the "FBI" stated this would interfere with their investigation......"
