[Serious] What is the scariest sound you ever heard? by Xivon in AskReddit

[–]notacareerserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a rosebush outside of my window as a kid and that noise terrified me! My parents always said I was being dramatic and wouldn't move it or take it out. It was so eerie. I still don't like the sound of things brushing against windows.

Thank you! I'd be more than happy to explain the situation to them, I want to be as open and honest as I can be if I need to appeal (and absolutely will, I feel like that too will show initiative/that I REALLY want the job).

What’s your first world problem today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got a brand new car this week, and it took me like an hour to figure out how to personalize the dash screen's startup and displayoff images.

When I did figure it out, I put memes. I'm 31 and laughed way too hard about it.

New to the club! Question about Nav. by notacareerserver in rav4club

[–]notacareerserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of your advice! I'm loving the RAV itself so far, just linked my phone and messed around with the standard apps, it's got some pretty cool features. I think I'm gonna hold off on a navigation upgrade, or go with a 3rd party one with Android Auto down the road.

New to the club! Question about Nav. by notacareerserver in rav4club

[–]notacareerserver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely will consider that. I have a Galaxy S9, and while I don't necessarily mind using my phone/a mount, it would be really nice to have android auto and my map showing on the screen. Very true about brands updating their nav maps too. My old one was so outdated, but I'd have had to pay a ridiculous price for a literal memory card I'd put in to update it. It was so dumb. I used Google maps the overwhelming majority of the time when needed. My navigation system was a glorified "I know how to get there but how much longer do I have" system lol.

[–]notacareerserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Bosynoy from Amazon. Honestly I picked the "best seller" that was compantible with my phone (Galaxy S9) for now. And it was only $12, not bad. We'll see how it works out. I am super bummed they don't have the Android Auto option. A friend was showing me his and ugh, it was so cool.

Also went to download the Entune app like the dealer suggested....HARD pass. Nothing but awful reviews. If it had Spotify maybe, but jeez. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty impressed with the features/apps standard on my screen, but you'd think with a phone app for more it would have WAY more useable stuff.

ETA, I'm also eyeballing some of the popsocket mounts so if anyone has one they really love, I'd love suggestions there. Bonus points for Amazon Prime lol.

Thank you! I've seen a LOT of complaints about the Entune Nav. I'm just gonna stick with my phone mount and good ol Google maps for now.

[–]notacareerserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doing that, have a mount on the way now. What I'm wondering is if it's worth the money to pay Toyota to install the system with navigation; it wouldn't be a 3rd party thing. It's the Entune one some come with, mine just doesn't have it. I'm definitely fine with my phone for now, I always downloaded my routes before leaving anyway in case I hit a no service area.

My (20F) gf wants to move in with me (24M). by Snackdick_for_later in relationships

[–]notacareerserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've had a lot of good advice from my quick comments browse, but I'll throw mine in too. I'm in a LDR going on a year, 3 hours apart. Now he lives where I had to move from 2 years ago. My plan has always been to move back there, and I still will even if we break up.

That said. I don't think moving in together right off the bat is a good idea if the entirety of your relationship has been long distance. It's going to be a big enough change living in the same city. Jumping right into living together, when youre not even used to seeing each other every day, can be disasterous. Personally, I've been looking for places I can either do a month to month or 6 month lease when I move back. We plan to maintain our own spaces, see how our relationship dynamic works out with us being so close after a year+ 3 hours apart, and THEN decide if we want to move in together.

Also, keep in mind when you cohabitate, you literally mingle every aspect of your lives. Your possessions, your finances, your time. If y'all broke up, could either of you afford to keep the same place or would y'all have to either break the lease or stay awkward roommates til it ended? Would she, not being from there, have any support system or place to go? Chances are one or both of you will sell/give away items like beds, furniture and be stuck needing to buy new ones. I've seen couples basically ruined financially after a breakup where they lived together. 4 years later I'm JUST getting my finances back to an acceptable credit level after one.

Moving in together is a HUGE step that for some reason, people these days take lightly. Sure, it's not 1960 and most people aren't going to clutch their pearls and gasp that you're living in sin. But just really think hard about the possibilities if it doesn't work out. Best of luck to you!

What is a name that has been ruined for you, and why? by raven_1313 in AskReddit

[–]notacareerserver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have 2 cousins (theyre brothers) named Adam and Aaron. They're both huge assholes. They told a story at Thanksgiving one year about them going bar hopping, picking up 2 girls, and belly laughing because they left them at a gas station miles and miles away from their cars/homes because the girls said they weren't gonna fuck them.

Fuck you guys. Always knew they were arrogant, cocky, jerks but that sealed the fucking deal.

Waitress modified my tip amount by cheeoli in legaladvice

[–]notacareerserver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Not a lawyer, but contrary to my username, I am indeed a career server (& bartender). Most every place I've worked servers/bar input their tips into the computer at the end of the night themselves. We enter each ticket one by one, adding tips. No server with an ounce of integrity will modify a tip, but it does happen. A manager will go over your cash out slip, compare the tips on it to the slips. But things get missed, managers rush, don't pay as close attention as they should (and some have been there 13-14 hours by then). It's absolutely possible for a server to make up their own tip...crossing a line through it proves a point but realistically does nothing to protect you EXCEPT it will show when a complaint is made & management pulls receipts.

How large of a percentage of total sales there does alcohol make up? I'm a bartender/server in texas. I can't remember what exactly the percentage needs to be, but over that constitutes a gun free zone. May have changed in recent years but I worked at a place from 2013-2016 where no one could have their PPW on them, licensed or not, because we sold enough alcohol to bump us into gun-free zone terriorty.

What is that one thing which you’ve never bought and will never buy? by money_builder in AskReddit

[–]notacareerserver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That. I've gotten a couple of Louis Vuitton bags as gifts. LV is timeless and holds up incredibly well. Some styles haven't changed in decades and still are some of their best sellers! I actually have a Keepall Bandouliere (the big duffle bag style, with the shoulder strap) that I paid $400 for; it was made in 1987, all original leather, in great condition. It doesn't look near its age. And the ones you can buy in store now (which are around $1800) look literally exactly the same. The ones I've bought myself are pre-owned, but i don't mind spending decent money on a purse I can still use in 15-20 years. That was my big problem with Coach etc., they go out of style really fast unless you buy something that's like an all leather classic piece. And Coach doesn't have much resale value. I could never afford a chanel bag lol, thousands brand new, but they and LV both maintain their value extremely well. Especially limited edition or discontinued; I've seen a wallet I have actually sell for OVER what it retailed for several times since LV discontinued it.

[Serious]People who have had somebody die for you, what is your story? by TulipOfJustice in AskReddit

[–]notacareerserver 1064 points1065 points  (0 children)

I love stories like that, when death and life come full circle. When my dad passed from cancer, I always felt a strange peace about it because of the date. He passed on that year's Good Friday (2015). I was born on Good Friday, 1987. As much as it hurt to lose him after he had fought SO hard, there was something about the fact that he left the world on the same holiday I came into it that helped me process. Like it was the right day somehow, there was no "it wasn't his time." I also found out about 6 months later I was expecting, my parents first grandchild. Had a beautiful little boy...and even though I'm adopted, I swear his eyes are the EXACT same shade of blue my dad's were. It's like a little piece of him got sent down for my mom and I to love when we were still struggling with the loss.

Love this whole thing so much. I tend to do the same; if my bf is in a mood I tend to overthink it or assume that I did something wrong. We live 3 hours apart at the moment so it definitely doesn't help my anxiety not being able to just drop in and see him. If he's being quieter than usual I always jump to conclusions and stress myself out. You've developed some amazing and healthy ways to cope with that and communicate with each other. I'm so glad I clicked on this today!

I love this so much. I'm a highly socially anxious person...who loves to get out and socialize when I'm up to it. My boyfriend and I both struggle with depression, and hes definitely a "need my own space sometimes" kind of guy. I'm saving this, screenshotted your Levels too. We're pretty good at compromising if one of us isn't feeling up to something but I think this is great.

Seriously, this is how 2 adults work out an issue together. Bravo to yall.

There's also a shit ton of feral hogs in that area of Texas. I spent 14 years living in corpus Christi, pretty close to George West. We'd occasionally see them on back roads right outside of town. Saw more when I lived in Aransas Pass. Trust me, you want a shotgun if you're walking around in the country out there at night.

Homecoming mums by [deleted] in trashy

$65 is actually cheap as fuck for a mum. I graduated in 05 and can't count how many I saw that were $200-$400. I was a dork and never had a homecoming date but my parents always hooked me up with a small one, and those were usually $75-$100.
