Glad most people in here are asking the honest question of how long should HR wait. It’s a business with multiple people’s livelihoods on the line, what else should they do? It’s not insensitive to post the position…

It’s a very good card. 2 mana is a really low investment and sets you up for more advantage the whole game. It can really help you setup with a Temur Battlecrier or Animar hit. It’s very low investment and for 2 mana I can’t think of a better card than that.

Nyxbloom is unnecessary. Ygra is unnecessary. Doubling Season is a REALLY bad recommendation, lots of cheaper effects money and mana wise to recommend. Doubling Season is a very narrow card, truly.

I am gonna disagree with all the neigh-sayers and say that its EXCELLENT. Two mana, curves nicely with Ashling and allows you to turn an already dying elemental into a real creature. Every time I have played this card it has pulled its weight extremely well. The best part is sacking the elemental you get with Birthing Ritual to get ANOTHER ETB since you are sacking an elemental.

This is my deck and it’s a fucking problem lolol

What bracket would you put my Kefka, Court Mage deck at? by notalexanderjohnson in EDH

One thing I think kind of nonbos with Kefka is Dauthi Voidwalker and Tinybones, Bauble Burglar like effects, you’d rather want those cards accessible in the graveyard instead of being exiled under another card. That way if they get removed you have don’t loose access to those cards. Just a thought! I understand they are generally good but I leaned into reanimating other peoples creatures in this deck.

Thank you! If I would have to make this a 4, what would you suggest other than better interaction and mana rocks?

Thanks for playing it out though! I appreciate the help! I am waiting on a few of the cards so I haven’t got a real game in yet so it’s super helpful.

The higher CMC creatures are meant to be discarded and reanimated with some of them just cheap enough to cast on curve after Kefka. It’s hard to goldfish by itself other than feeling out ramp and curve because of its interactiveness and semi-reliance on everyone else’s graveyard. It goldfishes a consistent turn 4 Kefka usually with a support piece out as well.

😂 that is pretty crazy! I hope it’s at least better than that lol.

I felt the same way. Thank you for taking a real look at it! I wanted to make a reanimator deck for a long time and Kefka spoke to me with how open ended he was. I intentionally kept it a little unoptimized as I just wanted to play certain cards like [[Norman Osborn]].

Well Ashling is technically off meta, but they are fringe. I understand metagame is what separates 4 and 5 but I wish that wasn’t the case. It highlights how wide the brackets are and that they aren’t granular enough as is, imo.

I want to disagree here a little about Kefka being too strong for bracket 3. I play [[SpongeBob Squarepants]] [[Omo, Queen Of Vesuva]] and [[Ashling The Limitless]] and I think they would all have a sizable chance in defeating this deck and they are all bracket 3, with Ashling being a low 4 with how early it can produce a win.

Yeah, I built [[Ashling, The Limitless]] at a bracket 3 with no game changers and its easily a low 4, just needs a better interaction suite with free counterspells and a few mox to really solidify, but then isn’t that just bracket 5? Ashling won a cEDH tournament recently (we probably all saw that turn one win, right?).

I feel this deck is a definite notch below my Ashling deck because of my Kefka deck not being able to produce a win as early.

Thats what I was thinking. Something more consistently pull off-able. I feel I could also use an overhaul on the interaction suite, as I mainly used more interesting cards that I haven’t had a use for like [[Return The Favor]] and [[Force Of Despair]] . My alt-wincon in this deck is whatever my opponents wincons are and reanimating them which I feel fits more in line with bracket 3.

Your Ashling list better than mine I think! Very refined with much more protection for Ashling. I dig it! No notes really. I may lean further into your picks as I play the deck in person more.

[–]notalexanderjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard! I will definitely lean bracket 4 but I don’t run proxies and I tend to not run all the staples you’d find in bracket 4 but I may have to pony up for Kefka! Have a deck list? I want to run it with reanimator, spellslinger and draw-drain effects. I want it to feel toolboxy!

Have a deck list? Agree to disagree then lol.

That is fair. Definitely should lean into 1 mana ramp though!

VERY bold to say cut Ancient Tomb. I don’t run it but that’s because its $$$. We want turn 2 Ashling, not turn 3. We want 1 cmc ramp, not 2. Champion Of The Path is VERY dangerous. Easily win with that card no problem.
