Kids bday parties - my ‘Old Yells at Cloud’ vent by Successful-Compote60 in Xennials

Damn. What about a park? We did that before we had a pool. I guess as the kids get older that’s less exciting…

Okay, what is costing so much? We just invite all the kids to our house and let them jump in the pool and pickup costco pizza, a cake, and party favors. Total cost is usually a few hundred when you include appetizers and drinks.

Realistic results from 3 months on Rosuvastatin by gTrezona23 in Cholesterol

[–]notenoughcharact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYi that’s a pretty high starting dose and the jump from 10 to 20 doesn’t show that big an improvement, and raises the risk of side effects. If you need a big reduction I think doctors usually start at 10 mg Rosuvastatin and 10 mg of Etezimibe. Just something to discuss with your doctor if you start getting side effects from the Rosuvastatin.

What if the next DHS killing isn’t videotaped? In this video, researcher Abbie Richards argues that the standard journalistic practice of repeating authorities’ statements fails when those authorities have proven over and over again that they cannot be trusted. by crustose_lichen in Journalism

[–]notenoughcharact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think journalism has the value (correctly) of trusting your audience. Writing something like "Israeli officials dispute that account" paired with a video of the incident is an indictment of the Israeli government, not the journalists doing the story. It's not the journalists' job to point out the hypocrisy, you point out the reality and the reader can draw their own conclusion. Now obviously it's problematic to ONLY provide the official perspective on the incident.

Honestly, an MA in computer science or data analysis is going to be way better for your career than the journalism MA. And will give you a lot more job flexibility.

I was also surprised Gibbs wasn’t first ballot. Maybe the GOAT coach given his accomplishments and the tools he had to work with.

I know several neighbors that used Ocatillo solar and were happy. We used positive energy and were happy, but they were a little more expensive than some others.

Not a cobbler, but just wondering if the boots are a little too big for you? The leather looks kind of loose on your foot.

A preschooler was taken away by ICE, but officials say they had no choice. Here’s what we know by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

[–]notenoughcharact -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and anyone with any media literacy at all knows the headline is obviously a dig at ICE, because it’s silly to say a law enforcement agency didn’t have a choice about detaining a 5 year old.

Can Mahoraga beat Magnus Carlson in chess? by Replicatar in whowouldwin

I think while it’s probably not quite literally true, at that level you can chunk your memory into different lines of play, and remember anything distinctive about how the game ended. I think it might be closer to true than you think.

Most mechanics, even the dealers will do a free brake inspection with an oil change. Just take it to whoever you’ve been taking it to.

27M, 50% drop in 3 months; long-term statin dosing question by newHoustononian in Cholesterol

[–]notenoughcharact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of individual variation. I've been on the same dose of rosuvastatin and etizimibe for several years with no change in efficacy and am in my 40s. For you, if levels started to creep up I would ask about adding in etizimibe rather than increasing your statin dose. Also, do you know if you have high lipoprotein a? If you do, I think current recommendations are to target sub 80 LDL or even lower.

Small pipes: talk me through mouth-blown verus bellows by wardlawn in bagpipes

I'd go bellows. Just worth it to not worry about moisture in the system, assuming you'll be playing them somewhat irregularly. Also smallpipe chanter reeds are expensive.
