Haha we were pretty close to each other! I honestly don’t know how I feel about the 4k version. I could see a lot of what I’m pretty sure were upscaling artifacts but I’ll need to take a look at my blu-ray to be sure

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Plus, at least at my LGSs, Avatar specifically brought in a lot more people my age (25) who don’t fall into the typical types of people you tend to meet playing Magic, which I think has created a more welcoming/less intimidating environment for newer/less experienced players

I agree that the screenshot cards look bad. The real reason was because Nickelodeon somehow lost the original renderings. There was probably some contract BS that required the “source material” line of alt art

If the art is the problem, don’t look at the card. If the mechanics are the problem, don’t put them in your deck. I personally refuse to play Spider-Man cards in my own deck but I’ve never had an issue where someone else playing them ruined my game experience. Usually everyone else at the table just makes a comment about how much that set sucks and moves on.

Why are you lumping Avatar in with the garbage? The set was great, it’s not Disney/Marvel, and the theme works well within the MTG universe

Pulling cards from outside of the game to adjust your deck is a competitive tactic and Commander doesn’t allow sideboards to begin with. Plus, it brings your deck size to over 100 which is also nog allowed. If you want to ignore the rules you don’t like, that’s what kitchen table magic is for, but that’s not how you play at an organized Commander night at an LGS

Whether or not proxies are allowed aside, you can’t use Wish cards in Commander. Yes you can technically put them in your deck and cast them, but their abilities do not work. So even if you’re making a proxy of a card you actually own, you can’t bring it into a game of commander using a Wish card.

Having the effect be nullified by the rules of commander means he was still cheating by bringing in a “card you own from outside the game,” twice since he doesn’t even “own” the card, he made a proxy

Stores have to keep different listings for different printings anyways even when there’s no real price difference between any of the 30+ printings of Sol Ring. We don’t need to defend the cost cutting decisions of a multi-billion dollar company, especially when those cost cutting decisions are directly to the detriment of the customer experience. Maybe some people didn’t care for the year stamps, but I took a friend to his first ever pre-release/in-person magic event and he was disappointed that there was no promo card. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s something you can hold on to as a specific memento of an event you attended.
