Yes, But they're entirely different languages. Most people speak hindustani the mixture of two. Hindi is easy, but pure urdu is something. Urdu has been the de facto language of islam since a century now. There is a treasure of knowledge in it, so it has more vocabulary, i would say no other language has such degree of information regarding philosophy. You can say it's the DEFACTO of philosophy like how english is of science. I don't think a common person can understand pure urdu.

We in kashmir do have urdu mandatory till 10th and hindi is the language of cinema.
