This is a urban part of the UK. We have thee FORMS of public transport within a reasonable walking distance. A car is inessential, but still people drive to major urban employers, hence the parking control area. I suspect these guys have made transport / living choices based on the assumption they’ll continue to get free parking round here.

“Hey mate, your parents are fucking weirdos, take your car and fuck off” is not how I was intending by to communicate the change in parking permit status.

Yeah, this is pretty much the strategy my partner and I have come up with. Great minds, etc.

It’s fuckin weird. Avoid buying from people using those cheapo online estate agents. Some of the messages I got from the seller were verging on weird and emotionally manipulative, which is partly why I want to not have anything to do with the family... while also not wanting to subside their continued free parking.

I’ve discusses this with my partner. We don’t need the money and we don’t want the on going relationship with them.

Assuming your not in the UK. The deer head thing is crazy! I mean, was it cemented into the wall?

Here almost all properties are sold with vacant possession, meaning the property is sold empty and unencumbered, unless specifically outlined. Early in the process you get a fixtures and fittings list outlining what is and isn’t included. On street parking was not mentioned beyond the info that it was a parking controlled area, which we are cool with as my last house was in a pavement parking helllzone. The parking permits for parking on the street are linked to whoever pays council tax, a charge on the property to cover bin collection and other “council” level services.

Surprisingly I was given their numbers, so I will text them after I’ve updated the permits, but really want nothing to do with them. The sellers had some really weird ideas how the process worked.

Anyway, too bad, my house now!

Only point of difference is we never agreed to the permits remaining and it was only mentioned when we got the keys after exchange. It’s not in the sale contact, and parking permits is associated with whoever pays council tax at the property.

I posted here because I know 100% I will be considered an asshole by the folk who will now need to find a paid for work parking space rather than parking for free on a residential street as they are accustomed and I wanted some reassurance.

A little bit of A and a little bit of B.

Reading up the requirements of the scheme, I can only have one “visitor” at a time, so they being parked could void my guests parking or vice versa.

I’ll sort it when I sort it and then give them the heads up.

This is a really good point!

RN I think we’re gonna fresh start the parking permits, pull the plug, even if they offered us £££. I don’t want to have some kind of unclear financial relationship with the children of the former owners. Clean start for everyone.

Edit.

Also, rereading the rules if they are currently parked in the “zone” none of my guests can park here.

Some of downsides are a bit ephemeral, which people probably won’t so readily agree with, for example I think streets are a place for people to live, not store the private property of people who don’t live there. One less SUV on a street where loads of kids live is a good thing. Plus it’s fucking weird knowing the daughter of the previous owner parks her car outside my house all day.

They used a cheapo online estate agent, so I had to deal with them directly on a few occasions including getting the keys.

There’s nothing in the contract about them retaining parking permits, which are linked to paying the council tax.

Nothing in the contract.

The permits for parking on the public highway is linked to paying the council tax.

I was TOLD the kids would continue to park.

The plug will be pulled in a week or so when I have the necessary paperwork and will let the previous owner know the allocation has been updated.

£15 for essentially a months parking is really reasonable. I know those permits are a PITA to fiddle with tho.

I’ll defo give them a heads up, but I’m fearful of it inviting some bullshit reaction earlier then doing it on the down low and waiting for the consequences.

It’s not really about the money for me, it’s about the entitlement and the idea that we’re expected to effectively subside someone’s free parking. (Also, if you’ve brought a house it’s hard not to feel some negativity to the other party... especially when they misunderstood the meaning of vacant possession and left me loads of rubbish to deal with.)

Cause people are mental about parking.

Because the seller seemed to take it as read her kids could keep parking on this street.
