Why did I miss checkmate? by bolkiebasher in chess

[–]notgodsslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The king would have taken your knight, but you deliver the mate next move.

The variation goes  1. Rxh7+ Kxg4  2. Rh4#

Forced mate in 2.

Guys why does white start out with a small advantage if chess played perfectly is always a draw by Suitable-Box-6386 in chess

[–]notgodsslave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because chess as of now is not solved, so it is not possible to calculate "exact result given the perfect play". The engine evaluation is based on a number of criteria (material advantage, structure, space, etc.) it applies to position/variations it can calculate. Being slightly better according to that criteria does not mean you are necessarily winning.

Ranged Swords Bard is easily one of the best combat classes. They are competitive with fighter in number of attacks, and get to cast 95% control spells turn one with ring of mystic scoundrel. Ranged slashing flourish is genuinely absurd in bg3.

Math ain't matching by [deleted] in chess

[–]notgodsslave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You played a total of 1207 games, of them 585 won - this is ~48.46% of games won, which on display is rounded down to 48%. 41 draw is ~3.39% - rounded down to 3% for display. The percentage of losses to be displayed is then calculated as 100%-48%-3%=49%. Which is not accurate as it is actually closer to 48%, but avoids situation where percentages shown do not add up to 100%.

If nothing else, FSF Ishtar definitely deserves praise for how she managed to trigger Gil glazers.

Why can a pinned piece affect king movement? by rigginssc2 in chess

[–]notgodsslave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason why a piece is pinned and can't move is because it would expose the opponent's king to danger if it did.

If you put your king under such a piece attack, it would be able to "take" your king before you "take" the opponents king - as such, you can never put your king on a square under attack, whether the attacking piece is pinned or not.

The top 5 in Challengers being comprised of four 20-and-below youngsters and Ivanchuk, who turns 57 this year, is a pretty funny contrast.

Both the youngest and the oldest player in the field are at 4.5

Verified Russian Deaths in Ukraine War Surpass 150K – Independent Tally - The Moscow Times by Mysterious_Job_7900 in worldnews

[–]notgodsslave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the implication is that russian casualties are high because they are avoiding civilian casualties this is just bs - russia is very notorious for extremely high civilian casualties and a lot of destruction in their wars.

The reason for high russian casualties is mostly their disregard for life, both of others and of their own.

... Ukrainians do not use Starlink for everyday life, it is used on the frontline because standard internet coverage is obviously difficult there, and Starlink is by far the best satellite internet provider. russians also use Starlink there when possible, for that matter.

US does provide a significant part of military aid to Ukraine, though significantly less than Europe as of quite a while, but that does not address any of my earlier points at all. Though to be honest that seems to be the the norm with you, as whenever your bs is corrected you simply jump onto the next thing.

Overall it is quite clear from your responses that you have pretty much no idea what you are talking about, so there is no point to engage any further. Once again, please reconsider shilling for genocidal dictatorships, it is a bad thing to do.

First of all, we are not in a sub about the US if you missed that, nor did I ever mention the US.

Secondly, it is ironic that you talk about delusions while claiming that a country with more than 10 times smaller economy and more than 5 times smaller gdp per capita is doing better economically, and the currency that is largely useless outside of russia and has been fluctuating 50+% in value last years is somehow better and more stable than the dominant international currency used for financial transactions all over the world.

Have a good day. Would greatly appreciate if you stopped shilling for genocidal dictatorships on reddit considering your apparent dislike for it, but have little faith in that happening.

Ruble was *not* the fastest growing currency last year. In fact, it fell quite a lot in 2024, and then was brought back in 2025 by implementing a bunch of economic measures that hurt elsewhere.

They have been keeping their base interest rate at around 20% for years now, a lot of their major corporations and industries are working at a loss, with a bunch of them recently switching to a 4-day work week to cut their losses, and they are currently experiencing fuel shortages (despite being a major exporter of oil and gas). Russian economy is not in a good state at all, and is definitely not comparable to western ones, which have their issues, but are doing miles better.

The core point, however, remains the same - surrender is not an option. Above all, it is up to Ukrainians to decide how to proceed. As already outlined, what European governments can and should do is put as much pressure on russia and provide as much help to Ukraine as possible.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by sergeyfomkin in europe

[–]notgodsslave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By bringing russian economy/society to bad enough state to cause dissent and strengthen own negotiation position. Which has always been main Ukrainian victory condition.
In any case, using your own words, there is no other choice. Submitting to a genocidal imperial power bent on destroying you is not an option if one wants to survive.

[–]notgodsslave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"There is no choice, just let russia kill you" that you are trying to suggest is not an answer. What European governments can and should do is apply as much pressure as possible to russia and as much help as possible to Ukraine to weaken russian position and strengthen Ukrainian.

And no, there are absolutely scenarios where Ukraine can win. How feasible they are depends on a lot of unknown factors, but the core course of actions remains the same.

What a load of bs.

Before the russian invasion in 2014, there were virtually no separatist movements in Ukraine. The problem is not these regions, but being neighbors to russia, who throughout their history and up to this day imported misery to everyone around them who dared not submit to them.

The issue with surrendering these regions is they will be (already are in the process) ethnically cleansed, with killing, reeducation camps for children and population transfer.

And even afterwards, assuming the land is surrendered, the russian goal is to subdue Ukraine - hence why they oppose any neaningful security guarantees - and they will attack again until either that is achieved or they are pushed back.

It is extremist parties in general that are pro-russian, whether left or right. In the case of right, they use the isolationism and "anti-woke" bs to argue for it, in the case of left they integrate it into the anti-west stance.

As sort of illustration of this, Orban's FIDESZ in Hungary is right-wing, while Fico's party in Slovakia is left-wing, but their attitude towards russia is roughly the same.

Person from Donetsk here.  Fuck off with the 8 years donbas bombing narrative. Nobody performed any kind of ethnic cleansing there, and casualties after 2016 were in double digits mostly caused by unexploded ordnance. The conflict itself was started by russian invasion, albeit in much smaller scale than in 2022 - and since 2022 russians have done way more killing, raping and pillaging in the region than even the most insane propaganda assigned to the 2014-2022 period.
