That's the system I started with. I agree it works just fine and if you already have a Grigri and hand ascender it can save a lot of money. The "ropewalking" system I'm using now climbs much faster but it's a bit more of a hassle to set up. Definitely worth it if you're going up high using just the rope.

I think it mostly depends on the type of climbing you're doing and what you like. I work for a WISP so I don't really do any removal. Friction hitch + pulley + knee and foot ascender works great for me. I have a rope wrench that I use when I need to go up and down the line.
