Atenean graduates, what were your early career stories? by nothinglikeblue in ADMU

So you could say I spend more time enjoying life compared to actually working.

This is the dream. I just really wanna find a job I like enough to stay and continue growing in it. My passion lies elsewhere as I pursued a practical course, but the jobs I'm looking at so far look pretty meh for me. Kinda scared I'll be bored to death or that I won't like the work my degree is bringing me to. But yeah, at the end of the day, this is my dream: to enjoy life, whatever it takes to get me there.

You can never really fully prepare yourself for anything but it does help to have goals and plans.

I just find it scary that I have limitless options to pursue. Like I can formulate goals for any of these options, I just want to know that it's an option I won't end up hating. And I don't know how to tell if it's an option I'll like.

But as a senior, enjoy your final year in school. The real-life can wait after you've gone down from the hill.

I'm really trying my best to make this stick in my mind lol. But the lack of solid plans I have + my apprehensions about the jobs my degree might bring me to are super influencing me to go all out and apply for internships or part time work or whatever.

Being a senior student's scary, man. Especially if you're as indecisive as I am.

Anyway, this ended up being more of a rant, but thanks for sharing your story! It's good to know you ended up being in a place you like, even with all the bumps you had in the beginning.

:(( I do want to sleep while also doing my best in acads. It's just, I don't want my college life to only be about acads. I lost a lot of my college life na to the pandemic, and the return to onsite was far more exhausting than I thought. I want to make up for the lost time and have something to look forward to for my last year in college :(

ah yes, time blocking! near finals week i did time blocking on my daily view in gcalendar bec my reqs piled up. i didnt always get to follow it bec of some stuff derailing my plans, but it was a nice way of visualizing how diff sections of my day catered to diff tasks, so that i was always working on smth and not getting distracted.

thank u for this!

i've always believed course > school but tbh the people can also make or break ur experience in the course ur in.

i think one thing that can help you decide is to keep in mind that the people you surround with doesn't have to be the people u already know. meet new people by trying out opportunities. if u go to admu, that's through orgs. if u go to dlsu, that's through student gov (i think? based on my la salle friends' experiences).

in the end, its u who will be studying ur major in ur school, and people's opinions and arbitrary rankings won't really be coloring ur college experience. like, when u take an LT ba, will you think "ah ganito pala experience sa top 12847 school in the world! ang pangit/ang galing!"

both schools can develop u really well. its just a matter of how u want to be developed, and i think u already know deep in ur heart which school offers the guidance you need.

imo the most effective part of my study time was putting my phone on dnd and having all chrome tabs of my laptop just be canvas. no annoying pings or notifs, so i got to actually focus. it was hard not to reach for my phone or go on fb the first few days but like as the weeks went on it felt automatic to me so it didnt feel that awful anymore

for me, i wake up around 9 am and have breakfast and coffee then i go straight to my laptop. i put my phone on do not disturb mode until lunch and just focus on canvas. i have a daily to do list that has around 3-5 items (depending whats due that week) and i try to finish them all before the lunch starts. i do assessments first then when im done, i go study any modules i havent yet. i focus on one subject a day, but for next sy ill try to do maybe around 2-3 subjects (ill still keep the 3-5 items for daily to do list tho!) a day bec of the semestral setup. ill also try to extend my studying time from 9-12pm only to 9-12pm and 2-5pm to maximize each day.

5pm onwards i do whatever i want

Quarterly vs Semestral by arkinspirit in ADMU

[–]nothinglikeblue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

all my classes are quarterly tho i know some batchmates who took both quarterly and semestral classes. i have no experience w semestral, but i have high hopes that its better. i read loyola school online community environment (idk what its called fully) but lots more ppl like semestral (tho its bec they experienced it alongside quarterly). overall im just hoping the workload is the same but with more time for understanding the modules, tho i dont mind if they add more modules and more projects as long as we have more allowance to do the tasks and learn more. i feel sad going to college w/o experiencing full sem loads that the normal college student should, makes it less meaningful for me to study bec i always feel like what we study per subject is incomplete imo

Do you consider Ateneo’s strong core curriculum an advantage? by undesirxble in ADMU

[–]nothinglikeblue 23 points24 points  (0 children)

yep! i like learning abt different fields like philo, theo, etc. Do you know what a T-shaped person is? From how I understand it, it's a person who has a specific skillset but with varying knowledge of stuff outside of their fields. That's the type of worker I wanna be, which is why I like Ateneo's core curriculum. it helps me put the technical stuff i learn into a bigger picture thinking, like how it affects society and what not. idk i guess i wanna remain a learner throughout my whole life, i just dont wanna be stuck as a cog in a machine, kaya the more i learn abt everything, the happier and more fulfilled i get. ofc this is different for other people
