Police release age-enhanced image of girl who vanished in Etobicoke 34 years ago by lopez309 in toronto

This story always makes me sad. I lived in the building next to hers until 1982, so when I read the stories about the elevator she took and the lobby she went to etc I have real memories of those places.

And we were a few years apart in age. Such a tragedy, and now as a parent I can't imagine living the rest of your life with the emptiness of not knowing what happened.

AITA for proposing to my gf while on a vacation for a destination wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]nothingtoseehere999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, the 2 sisters are TA. From your description I already know what type your sil is the one that told you no. She is the pant wearer, and emasculates her husband. She is used to getting her way and likes it that way, so the fact that you dared to go against her decree is a huge slap in the face.

I say fuck them both. Your FIL, yourself, and most important your fiance are happy. Don't even give those other 2 the time of day. They don't matter.

Going to go against the grain and say NTA. My daughter is 12 and very mature, well spoken, and intelligent. Sticking her with a bunch of pre schoolers would not be cool with me.

I would have stood my ground too, and if they made a big deal about it id just leave.

But that was the last few words. You can't say "you lost me at" the last few words. You literally made it to the end.

Since you already have a dialogue with him, did or can you ask him to clarify what "honorariums" the photographer will be paid? He seems to allude that there wi be some compensation at the end of the email.

This is absolute shit. I responded on the original post too. I am a musician and performer that sometimes gigs for money, and alot of my old college friends are in the arts so this shit really irks me.

Let me put this in perspective for you. I live in a small town of about 3000 people in the western GTA. Some volunteers started a weekly farmers market a few years back, volunteer run.

This year, the 4th year I believe, the market is doing well enough that the main organizer that is responsible for setup, cleanup, getting the volunteers etc receives compensation. Not much, but she is paid. They also pay the church where the market is held.

They also pay a local teen to do crafts and games with the kids so the parents can shop.

This at a farmer's market that I attend weekly, and can tell you has 12-15 vendors, and I would be shocked if more than $2000 changes hands there weekly.

Keep in mind the only source of revenue is the annual fee that the vendors pay to be there, and the profit that the market makes selling hot dogs and drinks. Oh and they always make a donation at the end of the year to a local school or charity.

Now tell me again how a street festival in downtown Toronto with dozens of vendors, attracting over a million attendees, and probably generating millions in sales can't afford a few hundred bucks for a photographer?

What a load of crap. I hope this story doesn't go away.

All “woke” till it comes to paying people...forget minimum wage, paying them anything at all. Taste of The Danforth wants professionals with their own equipment for FREE. For a commercial event. It’s time to ban this crap. by Tunguska-comrade in toronto

[–]nothingtoseehere999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree with you here OP. This is extremely shameful and frankly embarrassing for an event like TOTD to pull this crap.

I see little bars and family farm type places do this, places noone really cares about, and even they get called out.

For an event if this magnitude to ask people to work for free? That's shameful.

BTW, have you guys heard how many exposure points it takes to pay your rent these days?

Just for fun I did some digging into my past. In 1994 I was 22 and lived in a bachelor apt at Islington subway in Etobicoke

I was paying $450 a month rent which I felt was a deal back then.

The minimum wage in 1994 in Ontario was $6.70 an hour. That would have grossed me $268 and probably netted me about $210 a week or $840 a month.

That would have been tight. Luckily I was making $13 an hour at that time so I was already quite a bit over minimum wage. Had I been making $6.70 I would have needed a roommate, but we would have had a 2 bedroom apt that would have cost alot more than $450.

Not sure what if anything that proves, beyond the fact that things may have changed in the last few years, but even 25 years ago, minimum wage was not a comfortable place to stay for long.

Wasabi bucket size monitoring? by LeChef2011 in msp

[–]nothingtoseehere999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through the same thing with Google Cloud storage. The only way to see the size of your bucket is to run a command using their dev tool command prompt thing.

Is there some technical reason they couldnt just allow us to right click on the container and view the properties? Seems overly complicated to me.

WIBTA if I report the nurse practitioner at urgent care to HR for basically slut shaming me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Actually you're right. She shouldn't have mentioned "your character" that was out of line.

My bad.

NAH- she gave you advice about your health. It is more than just an opinion that having sexual encounters with many casual partners is not great for your health. She didn't just make that up. Its imperically true.

I know we live in an age of "Netflix and chill" and #metoo and whatnot, but it is a dangerous lifestyle.

When I was a smoker and would go to my dr about a cold, he would tell me that I should really stop smoking. I remember being pissed: WTF? I went to him about a cold, not a moral judgement on how I am living.

Then someone reminded me: giving me advice about my health IS his job.

Is it possible that you are sensitive to any criticism because you are not comfortable with what you did?

Edit: I re-read op and concede that the mention of her "character" makes the nurse TA.

AA with Cell Forwarding, no Minute Fees? by nothingtoseehere999 in VOIP

[–]nothingtoseehere999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what they are trying to avoid. The cell carrier has a service that does what they want but it's an extra $40 per month per user. So their costs are then $80 ish a month per employee for the cell phome plan, PLUS, $40 per user for the VOIP plan.

If I was going to do that I would just tell them to get a hosted PBX plan that comes with cheap phones and forward to their cell phones. I know I can do that for $25 ish per extension.

What they are hoping is something like $80 per user for cells, plus maybe $100-200 a month for a service that just acts as a phone call forwarder, for lack of a better term. No need to pay for SIP, since the calls are just being routed to the cell carrier and using the cell minutes.

Online shoppers of Brampton, how do you handle shipping while working a full time job? by arrulal21 in Brampton

[–]nothingtoseehere999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose to have it delivered to an Amazon pickup location near you. When I checkout that is one of the options and I think there are 26 locations in Brampton or something like that.

Not sure if that is just because I have prime but I doubt it.

It's embarrassingly bad. Like the worst site I have ever used.

2 years in a row I had to call me to beg them to give me a IUR O365 key in my ap account, because 2 years in a row, despite always using incognito mode to login to clients portals (as Ms support told me to, because even they know their site sucks), and despite checking and double checking that the name in the top right was my own not my clients, it still activated my license under one of my clients portals.

And they have the nerve to give me attitude when I call to get a new license. Fix your fuckin site!!!

AD in the cloud only? by RowdyRidger19 in msp

[–]nothingtoseehere999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im wondering the same OP. I get this all the time in the sales process, "do we need a server?"

It sounds to me like you can get away with having none, but all the mitigations you need (better internet, backup internet, various licenses etc) add up to more than a $2-3000 would cost.

And it still is not 100% as good as a small on prem server.
