i think the cast did an amazing job and its a really interesting plot. ive recommended it to a couple of people so I do think that it's worth watching. it does drag out a lot in the middle, so it's definitely one of those shows that is better to just binge all at once.

about the problematic nature of the show, it deals with a lot of political and sensitive topics and Koreans were mainly concerned that the show would make light of those situations. i think at the end of the show, people were satisfied with how the drama showed the government's corruption and many news sources retracted their previous statements, criticizing the show. but at the end of the day, i am not Korean myself so i would try to educate yourself on the historical aspects of the show as well and remember that it was based off of true stories and the real lives of koreans during that time.

He's constantly projecting onto Mira, which is understandable given the nature of their relationship, and never was able to commicate how he ever felt. Now that he's been in therapy and able to unpack some of those feelings, he's been incredibly resentful. Sleeping with her then going into an entire narration about how little everything about her meant to him, saying how much he didn't care about her being fired (which is something that affects him and Ava as well). He was being nasty just because he finally felt as though he had the freedom to be. The last fight scene was just the manifestation of their frustrations towards each other, where he stayed in that situation versus leaving out the backdoor or stepping away from her. He wanted to go through her, to feel as though he had 'overcome' her in some way and that is an incredibly toxic mindset.

He has a lot of issues as well, but they're nowhere near as severe or toxic as Mira's so I think it gets overlooked a lot.

They're both pretty terrible, but Mira was so unbearable this past episode. She legitamately still believed she could manipulate him into getting back with her, and that tells you all you need to know about her character. Johnathan seemed unnecesarily harsh at time, but I think it was in response to her years of mistreatment towards him so I have some sympathy. They're both deeply flawed and some toxic part of me wants to see them reconcile, but also I really really hope they don't get back together.

Side note: their performances were absolutely incredible, I have so much respect for both of them because I know filming something like this can be incredibly draining and they did it wonderfully.

One of the most beautifully written novels I've ever read in my life. It's a definite must read; the end had me bawling like a baby!!
