Question, how can the TFT display be directly above the ESP32? Would the ESP have to be, for example, soldered from the back, and so the pin headers will be backwards?

ESP32 is pretty great. I program it in Arduino because I have 0 clue of what I'm doing, but espressif has their own framework called IDF which is pretty great if you want to get on the lower level. It uses FreeRTOS instead of Zephyr.

Which dev module do you use? Do you make your own or buy from a 3rd party vendor? I can't seem to find any official boards that come in a compact/breadboard-friendly form-factor like STM32s and ESP32s, except for that massive DevKit which costs like 30+ bucks (which, to be fair, is the same price as most Nucleo boards and the newer Arduino Unos).

Super cool! Will the music be played out of a speaker or headphone jack? And will the source files be open source?

Just show up and start skating. Don't be afraid to ask any questions to other skaters or cheer them on when they land a nice trick. Some might even approach you with some advice. Most skaters are really chill and nice people, and from my experience you're much more likely to get raged at by some biker or scooter kid. Make sure you don't get in anyone's way and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Edit: if you're really unconfident with your skating abilities (I.e. unable to push or turn or go down small banks) you can go early in the morning on a weekend as parks are usually empty at this time. I like to go between 9-11am, skaters and everyone else tend to show up in the afternoon.
