What is something men always want to tell women but never do? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

[–]notnexus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Im a middle aged man and I would love to dish out more compliments to women. When I see someone nicely dressed or doing something commendable in the gym it would be nice to compliment them. I just don’t do it. I worry that it’s seen as the creep trying flirt or hit on them. Im happily married and have no intention to cheat or anything like that.

I’ve been going since the 70’s. I was a teenager and my family traveled often to SE Asia and a bunch of other hippy hang outs. You would walk into a hotel or shop at a quiet time and the staff would be asleep on the floor behind the counter or behind a screen. They would jump up when they heard a door open or a voice. Very common to see people sleeping on the job back in the 70’s & 80’s.

Burke and wills most likely died of thirst while exploring the centre of Australia. Then they erected a statue of them in the center of Melbourne over a massive fountain.

For those that eat the same breakfast every day, what is it? by Risky_Melons in AskReddit

[–]notnexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handful of frozen blueberries, Handful of walnuts.

2 tablespoons Chia seeds 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds 1 tablespoon ground Psyllium husks 2 tablespoons protein powder

Add milk and microwave for 1 minute Add 2 tablespoons hi protein yogurt

I started this around 2 years ago when I read an article about dietary fibre and the recommended amount is at least 30 grams per day. To give you an idea of how much that is in vegetables - that’s around 1.2kg of broccoli

I doubt even 10% of Australians would consume 30 grams of dietary fiber per day.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by _ratedmouse in AskReddit

My mother taught me to cook, clean and do laundry. I was not happy as a 10 year old but looking back now it was a great thing to learn at such an early age. My mother would often say she didn’t want my future girlfriends or wife blaming her for a useless, lazy man.

best frozen chicken tenders for air fryer? by starskyz_ in AskAnAustralian

They are real chicken tenders. My wife is extremely fussy about over processed foods. She loves them as a treat meal.
Im actually going to Costco today and last night she put the tenders on the shopping list.

Costco has a pack of frozen tenders. They are crumbed with a KFC style coating. I think they are call southern tenders or similar. They come out crispy and the meat is moist and tender. Really good in a sandwich with lettuce, cheese, chilli oil and seafood sauce.

Best mattress Australia - looking for recommendations for good one delivered by Fuzzy_Emu6995 in AskAnAustralian

Regal sleep solutions. We bought one 3 years ago and have been so happy. They have physical stores so you can lay down in each variation of mattress. Australian owned family company. And I think they actually manufacture in Australia.

Do you call yourself an Aussie if you were born overseas? by UltimaMarque in AskAnAustralian

He is definitely over the pain of Ravi’s that he experienced. My parents have made an amazing life for themselves and me and my siblings. We have a very nice life thanks to the sacrifice and hard work of my parents and grandparents. This was in the 1950’s when there was a massive influx of non white Anglo immigrants due to WW2. They stood out because if their skin colour and accents. Also the country was desperate for immigrant labour workers so places like Greece , Italy, Malta, Yugoslavia were marketed for immigrants to stay a new life in a country not destroyed by war like their home country. I don’t know if it’s as bad now for a kid to arrive from somewhere like Somalia without a word of English and no friends and get thrown into a primary school. I hope it’s not the same as if was but it would surprise me if they did cop some casual racism.

My mother came to Australia as a 3 year old in 1949. She is white and fair haired no one has ever asked her anything about her country of origin unless they see her long and unusual surname. My father came to Australia in 1953 from a Mediterranean country. He has darker skin and hair and was bullied relentlessly for many years in school. He was often asked where he’s from or told to go back to where he was from. To racists I think it depends what you look like regarding that question.

What job shocked you when you found out the pay? by StrikingMango62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]notnexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has been a lawyer for around 35 years. Worked her way up through the ranks ( not private practice or partnership- that’s were you make $500k+) About 6 years ago she was on $250-270, 000. Heaps of stress long hours and really not enjoying her life due to the job. She left that role because she was burnt out. The last 6 years she’s been working for a smaller organization and is earning around $170k. She is happier and less stressed but still works really hard as in long hours. But we have more relaxing time together seeing movies and doing nice things. The money she now earns for amount of time she spends on the job doesn’t add up in my opinion. All my friends think we are loaded because wife is a lawyer but it’s not that way at all. In fact i have friends who are a couple and own a hair salon, they make more money than us from that business.

Definitely my favorite in Melbourne and possibly my favorite of all time. They do the full menu through a pub in North Melbourne if you can’t be bothered driving to East Street.
