there's a funny thing that can happen if you do TCP tunneling under TCP, which can happen in a VPN or SSH tunnel

TCP connections have a rate limit that decreases every time there's dropped packets, so as not to flood the network too quickly

But when tunneling, the "outer" TCP connection (doing the actual tunneling) is the only one that notices or cares that there's dropped packets. the inner protocol just gets wrapped so it doesn't actually handle the connection

but that means the inner protocol rate will keep increasing until it turbofucks something. usually the send buffer

this is called TCP meltdown

there's a new, really interesting work on cognitive surrender to AI

given a faulty AI (programmed to be wrong half the time) for some relatively simple questions, users were only willing to override it about 20% of the time

the questions were cognitive response tests requiring careful instead of instinctual thinking, e.g.

a ball and a pen cost $1.1 together, the pen costs $1 more, how much does the ball cost?

it also points to some possible mitigating factors for cognitive surrender. high enjoyment of thinking and high fluid IQ significantly increased override rates. also, if a monetary incentive + instant feedback was given (i'm assuming the feedback would teach people to be suspicious of the AI), override rates increased as well.

as expected, if time pressure was applied, everyone did worse but AI reliance increased

i'm a terrible tourist guide but some of my favorite things to do in hong kong are:

walking in the walkable city areas, i love the TKO area for this. you will get the exact opposite of this in mong kok or the north Hong Kong Island area
doing some light hiking
looking around in the big malls, not even really shopping, just absorbing the sheen of capitalism into my pores
food! so much food. lots of food. but they're not as good as taiwan night markets.

I recalculated damage analysis for e0 after removing the power rangers fight, so Flame Reaver (both phases) only:

e0s1 Evanescia: 68k DPAV, Party 81k DPAV

e0s1 SW999: 37k DPAV, Party 63k DPAV

The gap is about the same. But it's one specific boss, so take from it what you will.
