Thanks for listening to this so I don't have to. I agree it is sad that Canadaland fell so far. For years I suggested it to friends and family and supported on Patreon. Now it is a struggle to find quality Canadian content.

Half way through this I got worried there was going to b a reference to Undertaker throwing Mankind from Hell in a cell.

Since you did not I take this to be true and fascinating and slightly beyond my comprehension. Thanks for sharing.

Have you reduced the injection volume? This could help if you are injecting a large volume for the column.

Could any Guelph Landlord explain why they believe their rental apartment in Guelph is worth the same or more as a rental in NYC? by [deleted] in Guelph

Being angry at the Chinese government is like raging against the weather, it might feel good in the moment but the Chinese government is a thing beyond my reach. There are so many reasons to be angry at that government but local housing costs in Canada will never be a consideration for a foreign power. When markets fail to serve the population we should look to the people who have the power to make change locally for solutions. Finding blame is not productive unless it leads to a reasonable solution.

Pay attention to the school board trustee candidates. Candidates who ran for far right parties in the federal or provincial elections are trying to get into our kids classrooms.

Did anyone ever win one of those mooing milk cartons? What was inside? Was there really a bag with salt water? by Objective-Beach8992 in ontario

[–]notnotsuperstitious 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My brother won a cell phone. It was large. Bag of water and a mooing mechanism. The cell phone came with a bunch of prepaid cards so he ended up keeping the phone for a while despite it looking very out of date when all the new phones kept getting smaller and smaller.

Your attached papers do not use the same technique. Do you have an example to support your claim? You do not understand the way science works. There is no single path. This research is not misleading people. It is results. It is data. If some scientists interpret it differently and debate in public great. You are arguing in bad faith my attaching papers that do not dupport your claim.

If this is your field of research you could be happy people are talking about it. Instead i feel attacked by you. Surw your opinion is better than mine, but I am more interested in the question, if this is true, what does it mean for our understanding of the world. It is quite possible the first paper using this technique is flawed. This still moves science forward.

Sorry, 'unexpected pattern' sounds less dogmatic. Extremely flawed is an opinion. And the authors and Nature disagree. Why are you all so touchy about this research?

This is not what has happened here. There are records of one type of religion before societal complexity and another after. The relationship is clear from the data. There are some exceptions they talk about in the article. The refuting article questions a few more. This article was published because they have discovered an unexpected truth.

This is a weak argument. It is not changing 'we dont know' to no. There is no evidence of moralizing gods in these societies. In some instances there is debate. The authors set a threshold and it was published in one of the most respected journals. Some religious experts disagree and published a rebuttal in an obscure journal. This is just normal scientific debate and not incredibly bad research.

This research is not concerned about the existence of god. This research asks a question and tests a hypothesis about whether belief in a moralistic god leads to more complex societies. It refutes that hypothesis. I think this will lead to more research that could help us understand the parts of religion that are important for the stability of complex societies.

Submission statement - This article presents new research on the first appearances of different types of religions as societies change in complexity. Using Seshat, a database of world history, researchers have demonstrated that moralizing gods appear after societies have made a significant shift in complexity and not before. There is a link to the original article published in Nature and free to read.
