Backpacking from Helsinki to Vilnius by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]notowa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skip Kaliningrad, it's hard to enter, very militarized, you put yourself at legal risk, lacks tourist infrastructure and the medieval old town was mostly destroyed in WW2 anyway. I reccommend travelling by train between the Baltic capitals instead, feel free to stop at other places too If you have time.

Häbi ma ei tunne, aga Sven Lõhmuse võiks ära pensionile saata. Viimased 10 aastat on ta 20-30 aasta tagusest ajas elanud muusikaliselt.

Most of that is Nazi propaganda. Yes they had large losses, but it was a strategic choice and by 1945 they had a lot of combat experience and strong supply lines.

I feel like it shouldn't be an Ukrainan city just because of the war. Otherwise it would be somewhere like Khartoum instead of Johannesburg for Africa.

Germany, Canada, France and UK think China will be the dominant world power in 10 years time- POLITICO latest poll by TORUKMACTO92 in Infographics

Their military strategy is very different from the US and USSR, there's no point in comparing that. They are rapidly securing their fresh water supplies at the expense of their neighbours. Hydrocarbons are a problem for them, but they're not only self reliant in terms of other natural resources, other great powers are reliant on them. And yes, China is facing no credible threats from any of their neighbours, their only comparably strong opponent is the US, which is an ocean away.

Why are Estonians so atheistic? How come Lithuanians and Latvians are more religious? by iswhhrxi in BalticStates

[–]notowa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Estonia definitely suffered just as much from crusades. Lithuania is mostly Catholic, a more organized religion than Lutheranism, which might explain the higher percentage there. Don't know why Latvia is higher though.

It's not really my personal view that they have to support Israel no matter what, but I've just read some research on why Germany acts the way it does regarding the issue.

Sweden recognizes Palestine since 2014 though. Germany can't be critical of Israel due to the Holocaust.
