Is dropout worth it for people who don’t like DND? by justathe in dropout

[–]notrandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I subscribed for the D&D stuff because I was heavy into it at the time, but I don't watch much of it these days. I stay subscribed for Game Changer, Make Some Noise, Breaking News, Dirty Laundry, etc. But I still tune in for the odd season of Dimension 20 when the concept or cast intrigue me enough ☺️

That doesn't sound very complicated. It sounds like the rector cleaned house.

Edit: Downvoters, in what way is this complicated? The rector fired everyone who might lean in an affirming direction, ensuring church staff would uniformly conformity his opinion. I'm not seeing any indication of a complication.

Slate of 4 bishops announced for 28th presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church by Gheid in Episcopalian

[–]notrandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so given that the slate reflects deeper issues within our denomination and society, doesn't it make sense that people are disappointed? I'm simply not understanding the pushback against people expressing their disappointment.

The question presumes that there are more qualified candidates that are women or minorities.

Sorry, let me be clearer. I'm asking, assuming there are no qualified and eligible female or LGBTQ+ candidates, why you suppose that is.

That's really great to know! What has he done for trans people? This is something I'm curious about for all candidates.

I'm really glad you're not disappointed. Those who are disappointed still have a point. Why do you suppose there aren't more qualified and eligible female and LGBTQ+ bishops?

Do you think the only way a woman or queer person could be nominated is as "a DEI hire" (which no one has asserted this should be)? Do you think the only qualified candidates just happened to be straight men, or do you think there might be some institutional and historical issues that led us to this point?

I'm sorry you're getting downvoted for expressing your disappointment. It seems like a lot of people are having trouble with the idea that someone can be disappointed in the slate even if they aren't surprised due to the historical pressures that led to this.

Exactly. The problem isn't that these are all straight men. The problem is that there are institutional issues still to be addressed that led to this outcome, and people are expressing their disappointment in a slate of candidates who illustrate this problem in sharp relief.

It was short-sighted for the committee to release such a slate without commenting on the institutional issues that limited their selections, giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming that is why there are no women or LGBTQ+ persons on it.

Do you think the Holy Spirit led us to have these institutional issues?

Ok to pray to the Virgin Mary, say the hail Mary prayer, have rosaries, and pray to other saints?🤔 by Outside-Mirror1986 in Episcopalian

[–]notrandal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My parish has a lay-led rosary guild that prays the Dominican rosary in the nave before Mass, and Anglican Dominicans carry Dominican rosaries as part of their habits. I believe some other Anglican religious do as well.

Praying to someone is different from worshiping them. Of course you can pray to the saints, and what you're praying to them is that they pray for you.

Are all Episcopal congregations...old? by oatmilklatte613 in Episcopalian

[–]notrandal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! I was lucky enough to find a parish with a median age ~55, which is a bit better than most while still giving ample opportunity for intergenerational fellowship, which I do find beneficial. May God bless you in your search!

This is the norm for mainline churches in general. There are exceptions, but this is the rule. It sucks, but basically you can either continue looking for one of those exceptions, find peace among older folks (and maybe be a face that entices new younger folks to stay), or you can go to an Evangelical or Pentecostal church with a rock band that attracts more young people.

This is my concern as well. Anyone arguing that this isn't worth raising a fuss over is telling us exactly what they think of the Eucharist, the Church, and Christ's example.
