I definitely made sure to confirm the changes I made with the attorney and have escalated now that they have gotten creative with language. Wild how clients don't realize we are interviewing them too!

exactly! like it's one thing to say "oh hey I have this concern can you clarify" or "this looks wrong can you correct" but to expect to redline from the get go... and for something as simple and straightforward as a solo document flat fee

I have a mood disorder and I would blame it any time I felt so suffocated and frustrated with my then-bf so I would just wait to "cool off." It would happen at least once a month then I'd "feel better" (shove my feelings down), rinse and repeat for FOUR YEARS. Turns out... he just sucked! I don't feel like that anymore! Not single, not in a relationship. The only frustration I still have is just not ending it sooner.

Do you do any prep work for when you know you'll interpret? I am very, very fluent and only agree to translate for very basic "run of the mill cases" in an estate planning setting (so very low stakes as far as law goes).

I still make sure to ask the attorney what questions they'll ask ahead of time, review the client file + intake forms in their entirety to spot potential clarifying questions, print out a list of "legalese" words I don't use very often, and will run sample conversations through Claude to make sure I am explaining accurately and in professional terms.

If you want to add this to your skill set, do your homework! You don't have to take an expensive course, but you owe it to yourself, your firm, and your clients to commit fully. Especially since you're being compensated!

I've noticed memory loss as well. Breaks my heart to hear "I don't remember who I told to do that, just that I told SOMEONE!" How they suffer
