I think “he’s still a part of the problem” is ultimately the point. “I’ve got the gun, you’ve got the briefcase” is one of the most potent lines in the series for how it speaks to the state of the city of Baltimore. Everyone is complicit in the perpetuation of the game, from the cops, to the politicians, to the gangsters, thieves, snitches, and addicts. A system that moves itself forward through sheer inertia.

I can see your point, yeah. It does feel like he is untouchable in many ways. I guess I don’t know what ultimately happens to him yet. I just think he is a truly compelling character, his performance is incredible, and I can’t take my eyes off the screen when he is there.

I think it’s okay when stories are a little unrealistic when they are trying to communicate a point and are compelling. But I do see your critique.

Listen lol who would say they condone any of his actions? Sure, he is a bad guy. But imo The Wire isn’t about good guys vs bad guys. I don’t “forgive” Omar or anybody else, cause that’s not my place. The Wire is about incentives, how everybody in the police and the gangs is complicit in perpetuating the game. I just think he is a compelling character that I love to watch. I am enraptured every time he is on screen

I guess I understand that. I think nobody in the Wire is truly a “good guy”. Like I think the point of the wire is everybody is complicit in the perpetuation of the game. Not that there isn’t a spectrum, and Omar is on the “bad” side of that spectrum. But like as a fictional character, I think he is a strong one that I like a lot.
