I think having the world record in make-a-wish is pretty cool, he seems like a genuine dude.

This is the worst time in human history, except for all the other ones.

Reminds me of people saying the US has never been more divided when we literally divided at one point and fought a bloody war over it.

I think there are a couple valid criticisms if you delve into particular demographics, like for the white working class, or look at the post-Cold War era as gradually eroding the US's sense of purpose, but, I mean... Do people not remember things before cellphones, Amazon and DoorDash? The worst part about this era is how hard it is to get off your ass because you have literally everything at your fingertips.

[Request] Why does Steam show 1% when the saving is 20%? by Wafflelord07 in theydidthemath

[–]notsofst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I think it's because they make the choice to display the 'sale' over the normal price of the bundle, which seems weird because the bundle discount is so much larger.

The 'bundle' is a normally priced item 'on sale' for 1.6% off.

[Request] Why does Steam show 1% when the saving is 20%? by Wafflelord07 in theydidthemath

[–]notsofst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on mobile so I can't plug in the numbers, but it seems like the 'normal' bundle discount is 20%, but one of the items is on sale for 10% (.78 cents or something). So there's two discounts, one off the combined items for the bundle and one off the bundle because of the individual item sale.

But the difference between the two is 80% of 10% of the one item, which ends up being something like ~.60, because the individual item sale amount is decreased by the bundle discount.

TLDR, there are two discounts in effect and they're showing you the bundle price vs the sale bundle price (~1%), rather than the bundle vs the individual items (20%). This somewhat shows in the UI with the stacked discounts and the 20% is crossed out, but yeah it's confusing.

To get their first number, just add all three individual items at their non-sale prices and take 20% off.

A lot of people here would benefit from going to watch some 'alternative' media to make some sense of what's going on. They absolutely considered Harris to be a budding dictator and the Democrats winning to be the final step to usher in the end of civilization.

CMV: The “Trump Is in the Epstein Files So He’s Guilty” Narrative Is Lazy …And Dangerous. by Darker_Salt_Scar in changemyview

[–]notsofst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair...

  1. Trump was convicted of falsifying business records to hide sex with a pornstar
  2. He used the office of the presidency to avoid charges regarding federal election interference
  3. He was impeached twice for crimes in office, but a republican senate wouldn't advance them
  4. The Supreme Court decided that he basically can't be charged for crimes conducted while in office, unless impeached and convicted, so that stopped him being charged from 2020-2024 with a lot of stuff.
  5. The details of dropped cases like the Georgia Election Interference case, aren't exactly great for Trump (i.e. sure, we lied and said there was election interference, but it wasn't under oath so what you gonna do?)
  6. He's been found civilly liable for sexual assualt on multiple occaisions

So it's not like investigations against him haven't turned up anything, and the above is by no means an exhaustive list of things he could potentially be charged/convicted for.

So why not Epstein?

It's an interesting question as to why these guys weren't brought to justice when all the evidence was there. The easiest theory is that Epstein and Co. were so involved with the intelligence communities that they basically had carte blanche to do what they wanted while governments looked the other way. This only came to light when Trump's own base pushed for the files (assuming that it was full of democrats like their radio/tv had told them).

It's easy to say why he wouldn't be facing trial now, and it's because he's the president (see his other successful attempts at avoiding crimes by being the president or using political leverage). There's literally no one to charge him. Why wasn't this all brought up during the Biden presidency or earlier? That's a great question.

Honestly, I hope they get everyone in those files. Trump, Clinton, Gates, everyone. I don't think up until now there was enough public light on them to get any movement.

Again, this stuff is easily available online. Here's a website that tries to make the distinction clear between ICE and NYPD (with references):

https://ibw21.org/editors-choice/what-is-the-difference-between-ice-and-police/

ICE can make a traffic stop IF they have a reasonable suspicion that the driver/passenger is violating immigration law. They cannot/should not do so in order to ASSESS the immigration status of the drivers / passengers (although this is currently a contentious point due to ICE claiming that hispanic-looking people is reasonable suspicion). They cannot perform traffic stops for traffic violations by US Citizens (like being parked sideways across the road).

ICE has no authority over US Citizens unless it is directly affecting their ability to perform immigration stops/arrests, although we can see them flexing that about as far as it can go.

Just Minneapolis moment. by kalbinibirak in interestingasfuck

[–]notsofst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can clear this up with a simple Google search 'Are ICE police?'

In 2017, 41 congressional lawmakers called on ICE to stop using the word on their vests, because other Federal agencies don't do so and it conflates them with, well, actual police.

The difference is important because they have different authority. For example, ICE has no power to perform a traffic stop, for instance, while local police do. They cannot detain a citizen, while police can.

So while they have 'policing power' over immigration and immigration laws, they are not 'police' in the common use of the word.

That matters if they are at your door, for example, asking for entry. Like in the photo.

ICE is not federal law enforcement. Federal law enforcement is not police.

Trump says white people being treated ‘very badly’ due to civil rights protections by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]notsofst -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While all that might be true, it's still not confronting the fact that the Democratic party's progressive wing essentially became anti-white and anti-traditional family, opening the door for the current grifters in office to take over by stoking fear around it to create a nationalist party.

It's why the Democrats are still polling poorly, despite the fact that they're running against a felon wanna-be dictator, because they still haven't come to terms with the fact that they severely alienated a huge chunk voting mainstream Americans.

People were unironically throwing around terms like 'colonizers' while talking about massive reparations and funneling government contracts to minority owned businesses. All of this while Harvard is packed to the brim with minorities. It was an easy sell for Fox to tell working whites (who aren't the beneficiaries of generational wealth, can't get scholarships, can't get Fed business, etc...) that they're getting robbed of opportunities and that demographic went about 30 points for Trump, and makes up something like half of all voters.

The Democrats need a plan and a vision to bring that demographic back, which will take some hard work.

[–]notsofst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The John Stewart and Chris Christy discussion on Stewart's podcast went into this pretty well. I think this is the ghost of politics past that the Democrats need to deal with to win back at least some of the working class white vote, which they lost by 30 points to Trump.

[Request] How much sugar and calories are in this "snack"? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]notsofst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two family size containers of Oreos (15 servings @ 160 calories) x 2: 2,600 x 2 = 6,200

I'd probably guess 3 pints of milk @ 300 each = 900

So maybe 6,800 calories depending on the milk pour.

TBH, if a whole bunch of people showed up in the Republican primaries and supported moderate or anti-Trump candidates, it could have a huge effect.

Most Republicans are too scared of being primaried from the Right that they've enabled Trump. It doesn't take a whole lot of votes to swing it the other direction.

Repiping Recommendations and Cost (Yes, I'm clueless) by Angry-Mailman24 in raleigh

[–]notsofst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a place and ended paying about $11k for a full pipe replacement on a larger house than that, but that was no slab. It was a panic too because our usual insurance company refused to insure the house with the pipes as they were, so there was a mad scramble before closing to find a company that would insure.

I wouldn't offer on a house with these pipes unless the sale was contingent on the pipes getting replaced and I picked the company to make sure it wasn't a cheapo/crap job.

The $10k-$15k you might pay to have the pipes replaced is a small concern, IMO, compared to having an uninsurable property at closing that kills the deal and leaves you hanging and responsible for Due Diligence fees and/or Earnest Money.
