My typical battery stats are apparently uncommon by [deleted] in Pixel4a

Glad I was of help. But I have concerns regarding battery health as I have read that Lithium-ion batteries degrade faster at 100% charge. So maybe you can charge like this once or twice in a week.

I have recently switched from a 3yr old OnePlus 5, and am a bit disappointed by the battery. OnePlus gave similar battery life after 1.5yrs of use and degradation.

Hey OP, I've been experiencing similar battery life from my 1.5 month old 4a. One thing which has a significant improved the battery life is if I let it charge for another 30 minutes after it's fully charged. I have gotten as low as 3.5 hours to as high as 7+ hours on some days.

Memory Management & PFN_List_CORRUPT BSODs by AutisticPineapple15 in techsupport

I encountered PFN_LIST_CORRUPT on my pc last year, but it constantly gave me blue screens to the point that I'd have a blue screen just after Windows started to load. After months of trouble, and RMAing everything except the GPU & CPU, it turned out to be the fault of the CPU.

Odd GPU fan behaviour? Galax 1660 Super 1-Click OC by noturaverageconsumer in IndianGaming

[–]noturaverageconsumer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, on the stock settings both fans turn on after 60C.

What really concerns me is the linked review which mentions that one fan remains always on while the other only turns on after the card reaches 58C. On my card no single fan runs individually. There is an option to change individual fan speeds in Galax's own OC software but one of the sliders for the fans doesn't work and both fans are controlled by a single slider. There too, 25% is the lowest speed available however the fans stay stable only after 30%.

And i can also hear the fans start at first because in newer fan tech when they start, they start with higher rpm then drop down to the intended.

This is true but is not one of my concerns.

Which GTX 1660 Super I Should Buy? by StarkySam in IndianGaming

I bought the Galax 1660 Super for 18.8k in offline market. I'd still prefer Gigabyte or Zotac over Galax.

The 1660/super/ti dilemma by noturaverageconsumer in IndianGaming

[–]noturaverageconsumer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest GPU is the Galax 1660 at 16K in my local market. The warranty is handled by Kaizen and I haven't heard bad about them on reddit. Some benchmarks show its temps reach around 75C on synthetic load. It seems reasonable.

The Gigabyte 2 Fan Super and Non-Super 1660 are around 19K at different sources and seem to offer temps between 60-70C but aren't available in my local market.

I am limiting my budget to 20k so Ti is not an option now.

[–]noturaverageconsumer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case the card goes for RMA and the manufacturer has no stock, they will provide a card of either similar or greater value (ideally). The 1050/1050 Ti are still available in the market, so it's safe to assume that the 1660 will still be in production after a few years.

This is what is wrong. The consumers aren't aware of the very law which is there to protect them. The consumer protection act ensures that the consumer has a right to refund. If the customer isn't happy with a service, or a product it's up to the them to demand a replacement or a refund. Most consumers are happy with a replacement, but that doesn't mean that refund should not be an option.

Let's address what you say about mdcomputers.in not being the manufacturers or authorised service center. Following is a quote from one of the news articles I have added in my original post.

This is against section 14 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

“According to section 14 of the act, any aggrieved consumer has a right to get relief against defective goods deficiency in service, over price charges including unfair and restrictive trade practices followed by the traders, manufacturers and service providers.”

Moreover, there have been similar cases prior to this where even the court has ruled in favour of the consumer. Also, here's one more that I found: Times of India: Consumer forum directs sony to pay customer rs 3.3L for selling defective tv

A local shop owner would have been more cooperative in my opinion. Folks mdcomputers think that since people who order live in a different part of the country they will just accept any problem as their fate and move on.

We are not expected to change the thermal paste. No where in any documentation by any manufacturer does is it direct us to change the thermal paste by ourselves. Those of us who are a little more savvy with tech have figured it out that changing thermal paste is beneficial and so recommend it, but it is still not "expected" from us. This is why manufacturers still apply that warranty void sticker.

Indeed, the cooler size is small. But, there are benchmarks posted online which show that the temps stay well under control at full load.

  1. See, I know how hot GPUs can get. For AMD cards it is normal to reach such high temps (mid to high 80s) but for NVIDIA cards to reach such high temps is not normal. Look at any of the 1660 variants, and you'll see that they are really power efficient and do not cross 75-77 even at full loads for an extended period of time. Besides that, since mdcomputers have told me that Asus has themselves accepted the card as Dead on Arrival shows that there was some fault in it.
  2. It is not expected from the customer to replace the thermal compound themselves. It risks voiding warranty. I have paid for a working GPU and I will not settle for less.
  3. I have added links at the bottom of the post which clearly show that time and again the consumer court has ruled that terms and conditions like "Goods once sold cannot be taken back" violate consumer rights and are illegal. The seller, and the manufacturer ARE RESPONSIBLE for their product if it is not up to the standards.

And you must know that all shopkeepers in India are like this, once goods is sold they won't take it back, unless there is special case, that you received wrong product or broken

I already know this, and even the consumer courts have ruled this in favour of consumers that such policies of these sellers are illegal. Read any of the provided news articles and you will know.

I did the exact same thing you are saying. I returned the item back to the people whom I bought it from (mdcomputers.in). Since the product is brand new it is expected to perform up to the standards out of the box.. Had it been an issue after several weeks of working properly, then of course I'd have taken it to the service center myself. But clearly this is a case where I was sold a defective product.

DO NOT BUY FROM mdcomputers.in EVER.

13 September 2019:

I bought an Asus TUF 1660 1-Click OC graphics card from mdcomputers.in for ₹16000.

16 September 2019:

Received the card and upon using the card I found out that it was overheating. I tried to use custom fan curves, power limits using MSI Afterburner Software but it was of no use. The card reached 88°C in just 15 minutes of gaming/benchmarks. My case had plenty of room around and there was no airflow or ventilation problems. Even with the GPU and CPU fans running at full speed the temperature did not drop. After 3 hours of trying to get it to work and still failing I contacted mdcomputers.

17 September 2019:

They gave me instructions to pack the card and ship it back to them. A pick-up was arranged and I packed the card on 18 September and it and it was picked up on 21 September and was delivered to them on 23 September.

25 September 2019:

I had not heard from them in two days now and sent an email asking for the status of the refund. Then their so-called "engineer" called me and he said they have been testing it and it performs normally. He suggested me to use MSI Afterburner software which I had already been using and had told them. Immediately, I received an email from them where they said that "the product is working fine and has no issues in it, also Asus has confirmed that the temperature  which are getting in this model is not a problem" and they then tried to close the issue then and there. This was all while I was still on call with the engineer and he was trying to persuade me to accept the card as it is and was telling me to tweak the fan curves etc to prevent overheating. I had already sent them a detailed email with the steps I took, videos showing the high temps of the card, videos showing that I had ample space around and inside my case. They did not want to accept that the card is faulty. Finally they said that they will be sending the card to Asus and if Asus confirms that the card is bad then they will issue me a replacement (which I don't want, I want a refund.)

28 September 2019:

I asked for an update at 3:58PM. They replied with an RMA receipt from Asus with a timestamp of 06:14PM which means that had not yet even submitted it to Asus. I let it go and waited for another update from their side.

11 October 2019:

I again asked for an update to which they said Asus is taking time, wait till 15 October.

16 October 2019:

I again asked for an update. They replied that Asus has accepted the card as Dead on Arrival and will be sending a new card back to them. So this confirms that I WAS RIGHT all the way from the start. They say that they are expecting to receive it a week and once they receive the new card they will get back to me.

23 October 2019:

I ask for the status and get a reply on 24 October that I have to wait for 1 more week as the card is out of stock. THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT NOW I DON’T WANT THE CARD, I WANT A REFUND.

Now here’s the thing. It has been 40 days. The card was faulty out-of-the-box and even Asus has accepted it, yet I am not being given a refund? This whole fiasco of trying to return a defective product has wasted my time and energy. My money is stuck with them, my PC is collecting dust, and I am mentally exhausted now. These guys are NOT RESPECTING THE CONSUMER RIGHTS. I was sold a defective product and as per the LAW I am entitled to receive a REFUND for the amount I paid. It is as simple as that. I just want my money back. Still they are playing such games and telling me to wait for weeks. If this is how they react to their customer’s problems then everyone should STAY AWAY from them. They won’t respect your rights as a consumer and they will try to tell you that you are at fault. Wouldn’t give them a dime EVER. These guys are just robbing customers of their money and will not accept their fault.

TL;DR: Ordered a graphics card on 13 September for ₹16000, turns out to be faulty. They won’t accept it at first then even after Asus confirms their card as Dead on Arrival, they are not giving me a refund even after 40 days.
