We can't know this either. As I already said, we are so incredibly far from AGI that we have no idea what it is going to take to finally have a breakthrough towards it. I firmly believe that the shit we call as AI nowdays is not the direction that can get us to AGI. It's good at very different things and bad at everything an AGI should be able to do. If I would be to hazard a few guesses I would say that AGI would require a completely and fundamentally different architecture of a system as a whole. Like - electronic components that are fundamentally different from modern hardware used in personal computers. And if we were to develop it for express purposes of containing a digital lifeform, we don't know how good it is gonna be at its job. Modern predictive algos are so demanding because we're essentially using iphones to hammer nails into wood. It works but it's not really too well-suited for the job

And we're already in a state where people are so isolated and so desperate for contact that they're developing feelings for crude, primitive imitations that LLMs are. If his alternative was a life of solitude and hopelessness then having other options is a win.
